After two years of rigorous training, Tsukiyo and Hiroshi stood on the threshold of the Demon Slayer selection test, their determination unwavering.
Embarking on the selection test together, Tsukiyo and Hiroshi were joined by several other candidates at the designated mountaintop.
Despite Hikari's confidence in their abilities, a hint of concern lingered in her eyes. The selection test was notorious for its perilous challenges. The real demons they would face during the test would be unlike anything they have done and practised in their training. Unpredictable and potentially dangerous situations would also be present, testing the candidates' quick thinking and adaptability.
As night fell, Tsukiyo and Hiroshi surveyed their surroundings, noting the presence of approximately twenty other candidates awaiting instructions for the test.
Feeling the weight of the impending challenge, Tsukiyo whispered to Hiroshi, her voice tinged with nervousness, "Seven days in the darkness, relying solely on our own resources while demons lurk nearby. Do you think we can make it?" Her palms grew clammy, and her stomach churned with anxiety.
Attempting to reassure Tsukiyo while being anxious himself, Hiroshi responded, "Don't worry, Tsukiyo. We've been trained by Hikari-neesan, so we're well-prepared for this. We'll take turns sleeping to conserve our energy and remain vigilant against any demon threats."
A nearby candidate with spiky white hair and scars across his face overheard their conversation and scoffed, "Tch, why do some people even bother coming to the selection test if they're not cut out for it?"
Offended by his remarks, Tsukiyo retorted, "We've dedicated years to training for this test. It's natural to feel anxious before such an important challenge."
The boy frowned and shot back, "Did I say I was talking about you? Just don't come crying for help when you realise you're not cut out for this. If you're not fully committed, it's better to back out now."
Determined to prove herself, Tsukiyo declared, "I am fully committed to this challenge! Hiroshi and I will pass this test!" Although taken aback by the boy's rudeness, his words prompted her to reflect on her own readiness for the test.
"Remember this feeling, Tsukiyo. In the heat of battle, your mind must remain calm and focused."
Recalling Hikari's teachings, Tsukiyo centered her thoughts. She should be focusing her mind and be calm right now. She reminded herself of their purpose: to become Demon Slayers and help in achieving a world free from the threat of demons, alleviating people's suffering.
With renewed confidence, she smiled brightly at the boy and said, "See you here again in seven days!", hoping that they would all successfully pass the test and reunite as Demon Slayers.
The boy looked at Tsukiyo, his expression unreadable, before letting out a soft grunt and turning away, thinking to himself, "What a peculiar girl."
