A palpable wave of darkness spread from Akuro, engulfing the clearing. The oppressive aura seeped into Tsukiyo and Giyu's minds, filling them with dread. Tsukiyo gritted her teeth, struggling to maintain her focus.
Giyu, however, was hit harder. The darkness wrapped around him, and his vision blurred as memories he had buried deep began to resurface. He saw the faces of his loved ones, their expressions twisted in pain and fear. He relived the nights he had lost them, the helplessness and rage flooding back as if it were happening all over again.
"No... not now," Giyu muttered, his grip on his sword tightening as his hands trembled. He could hear their voices, pleading, crying out to him. The weight of his failures crushed him, his usual stoic facade cracking under the pressure.
Akuro laughed, sensing Giyu's inner turmoil. "What's wrong, Hashira? Haunted by your past? Does it hurt to remember those you couldn't save?"
Giyu could feel the despair threatening to overwhelm him, but he fought to stay grounded. "Sister! Sabito! Please don't go, I am sorry!"
"Tomioka!" Tsukiyo's voice cut through the haze, worried yet sharp. "This is Akuro's Demon Art. We need to snap out of this, I know you can do it!"
Giyu's breath came in ragged gasps, the dark aura pressing down on him. The emotions and memories were overwhelming, fuelled by Akuro's dark, oppressive aura designed to instil fear and hopelessness, weakening even the most seasoned slayers.
Seeing Giyu disoriented, Akuro seized the opportunity to launch an attack.
Tsukiyo intercepted the attack, her sword clashing with Akuro's claws. "Your opponent is me, Akuro!"
"I am surprised to see you're not affected by my Demon Art. Your mental resilience is impressive," Akuro mused.
"Shut up and prepare for these to be your last words!" Tsukiyo shouted, launching another attack.
Akuro retaliated, manipulating the plants around him to strike at both Tsukiyo and Giyu.
It was a tough match for Tsukiyo. She had to guard both herself and Giyu while trying to land a blow on Akuro.
"Tomioka, pull yourself together. Focus! I am here for you, and I need your help too! We need to fight him together!" Tsukiyo urged, desperately trying to break through the dark aura's grip on Giyu.
Maintaining her defence and looking out for Giyu while fending off Akuro's relentless attacks was slowly wearing her down. At one point, a vine snared her ankle, tripping her. Before she could recover, Akuro slashed at her with thorned vines.
Tsukiyo tried to react swiftly but wasn't fast enough. She managed to avoid a fatal hit, but the thorned vines lashed her arms, drawing blood.
Seeing another thorned vine aiming straight for Giyu's head, and she is unable to move fast enough to block the attack while still trapped, Tsukiyo screamed helplessly, "Wake up, Tomioka! Please!"
Her words finally reached him, a lifeline pulling him back from the abyss. With tremendous effort, Giyu forced the memories back, his resolve hardening. He met Akuro's gaze, his eyes burning with renewed determination.
"You won't break me," Giyu said, his voice steady. "Water Breathing, Seventh Form: Drop Ripple Thrust!" He cut through the vines in the nick of time, then freed Tsukiyo from her bindings.
Giyu saw Tsukiyo's injury and felt a pang of guilt for her wounds, knowing she got hurt protecting him.
Tsukiyo, as if reading Giyu's mind, reassured him, "Don't worry, I'm fine! This is nothing. Let's fight together and rid the world of this demon!"
With renewed determination, Tsukiyo and Giyu stood their ground, facing Akuro, ready to end his reign of terror once and for all.
"Water Breathing, Eighth Form: Waterfall Basin!" Giyu unleashed a powerful water technique, creating a torrent that surged toward Akuro, washing away his vines and disrupting his control over the surrounding flora.
Tsukiyo seized the opportunity, channeling her crystal breathing technique to create a dazzling array of crystalline projectiles. "Crystal Breathing, Third Form: Sapphire Cascade!"
The projectiles rained down on Akuro, each one finding its mark with pinpoint accuracy, piercing through his defences and forcing him on the defensive.
Enraged, Akuro roared, summoning his dark aura once more, but Tsukiyo and Giyu stood firm, their resolve unshaken. They fought with unparalleled coordination, anticipating each other's moves and exploiting every opening.
"Water Breathing, Fourth Form: Striking Tide!" Giyu's sword flashed with blue light as he delivered a series of swift and precise strikes, driving Akuro back further.
Tsukiyo followed up with a relentless assault, her crystal techniques weaving a mesmerizing dance of destruction around Akuro. "Crystal Breathing, Second Form: Ruby Rain!"
Akuro staggered under the onslaught, his monstrous form beginning to weaken. But he refused to go down without a fight, unleashing all of his remaining power in a final, desperate gambit.
"Demon Art: Dark Abyss!" Akuro's voice echoed with malice as he summoned a vortex of darkness, threatening to consume everything in its path.
"Tomioka, let's stand strong together. Remember, we are united in this fight, and we support each other. No matter how difficult and painful our past may be, we face them together and move towards the future as one. We have the power to choose our own path forward. We are strong enough to resist the influence of the Demon Art," Tsukiyo said, reaching out to grasp Giyu's hand, conveying her thoughts and reassuring him that they could withstand Akuro's power.
Giyu looked intently at Tsukiyo, deeply affected by her words. He tightened his grip on her hand, nodding in determination. "Thank you, Amano. Let's finish this."
Tsukiyo and Giyu stood firm against the dark abyss, their determination unwavering. With a coordinated effort, they unleashed their most powerful techniques, combining water and crystal breathing in a dazzling display of skill and strength.
In a final, triumphant roar, Akuro was consumed by the combined power of Tsukiyo and Giyu's techniques, vanishing into nothingness.
