—First Person POV.—
Recently, it feels like the sun just personally enjoys assaulting my sleep.
The warm rays reached out with haughty hands, dragging my consciousness—that was aggressively kicking and screaming—back to reality.
My brows furrow as I squinted my gaze open, the action quickly transitioning into a series of furious blinks as I took in my surroundings—which, nothing in the room was familiar.
The bed frame had deep-crimson curtains trimmed with gold fringe, connecting the posts together while appearing both inviting and foreign.
Rolling onto my side, a dramatic grumble escapes my lips when an ache shoots through my body.
It took a few seconds to fully come to my senses, but then it hit me—I was at Oyashima Castle, assuming the role of Hikari's sister.
Despite the heavenly mattress and its clean scent, I couldn't ignore the discomfort. And with a hoarse groan, I stretched my arms out—trying to alleviate some of the soreness.
"Good morning!" Kinoko's voice bounced into my thoughts as her movement shifted from.. Actually, where is she?
I could've sworn she sounded close but upon glancing around the room, I caught no sight of the fae "I've never felt so battered in my life.." I comment with another heavy sigh.
"Good to know I'm not the only one," She spoke up again and I rolled over—peaking over the edge, only to jerk my head back just as fast.
Her mushroom hat launched upright as she shifted up from her position on the ground and damn near whacks me in the face.
"Here, try this— It should help dull the pain." The maidservants claim is followed by her holding out a mushroom for me.
It's reddish brown in color—a varnished, kidney-shaped cap with bands and peripherally inserted stem are giving it a distinct fan-like appearance, making my face scrunch up.
"Should I ask why you're on the ground first?" I inquire, slowly using my pointer finger to push the fungi away "Not until you eat this!"
It was a declaration with complete finality tainting her tone, followed by her pressing the little shroom into my un-awaiting hands and the maidservant bounds upwards—happily trotting off.
"You'll need to eat now so it'll kick in before the midday meal," My eyes trail after her for a moment, watching as she poured a cup from the pitcher.
And I blink in surprise, now feeling a pit start to grow in my stomach "Wait— Where?" "In the Great Hall," Her cross-pupils are bright in her smile "With the Prince!" She winked with the last part.
Isn't it too early for her to be so excited?
Ignoring the smug look dancing along her expression—I suck in a breath, glance down, and swallow my last bit of dignity, along with the mushroom.
Kinoko returned right after, handing me the goblet so I can take a few grateful gulps of water.
"Before you freak out, Hagakure mentioned the other guests will also be joining." My eyes peer at her over the rim.
"And the Prince wants to have a private conversation with you, apparently he's taking the time to get to know all the eligible maidens," The maidservant explains, her smile widening eagerly
"You'll get to meet him one-on-one!"
"Great, I'm one step closer to death." I grumble, features fixed into a deadpan and earning a playful smack on the shoulder.
