—First Person POV.—
I glanced up, taking in the festivals bright lanterns swaying like suspended fireflies—laughter and music intertwining in the air.
After popping one of the new fruits into my mouth, I spoke up "So, where are we heading next?"
"I want to show you something," He answers, his voice barely cutting through the lively hum of the night.
I followed without question, letting him guide me through the bustling crowds. In hindsight, I should've expected the city to be this packed—with Oyashima as the head of the Awaji realm, it was only natural that the streets would be teeming with life.
His grip wasn't tight, but I guess he wanted to make sure I didn't slip away into the tide of people.
Eventually, the noise softened as he brought me to a pavilion tucked away from the main festival—it was a normal house that'd been dressed in delicate silk, the fabric catching the lantern glow like rippling water.
The scent of jasmine and warm spices curled through the air, and the low murmur of voices inside made me blink in confusion.
Okay, this was definitely new.
My gaze flickered up to Izuku "What is this place?"
He scratched the back of his neck with his free hand "It's a preparation hall, where women get ready for the evening celebrations."
His dark eyes flickered toward the entrance before returning to me "I figured, since you didn't really get to dress up for the festival, if you wanted.." His voice trailed off as he stammered over his own thoughts.
Before I could respond, the silk curtains at the entrance fluttered, and a group of women emerged—their eyes lighting up the moment they spotted us.
"Oh! I must've missed one," A lady chimed, her bracelets jingling as she gestured me forward "Come on in, it's late and we must get you ready!"
The others gazes flitted between me and Izuku, curiosity evident in their expressions—the one who'd circled around and grabbed my free hand tugged on me a bit before letting a hum escape her lips.
Her gaze flicked down to our joined hands, and Izuku let out a quiet cough, his grip loosening before he abruptly stepped back—no way he'd only just realized he'd been holding on this whole time.
He cleared his throat and gestured behind him with his thumb "I'll just stay here."
I nodded slightly, my expression puzzled, before lifting my free hand and untying his cloak so it'd slide from my shoulders—holding it out, I watched as the Traveler took it back and draped it over his arm.
"See you in a bit."
I caught how his dark eyes glanced off and the way his hand flexed briefly.
The women giggled, one taking up my free side and nudging me lightly "He's sweet," She teased before looping her arm through mine—helping tug me inside before I could get another look at him.
