—First Person POV.—

"Lady (Y/n)," The Duke of Honshu drawled, his voice a serpentine hiss curling through the chamber "Or should I say servant?"

My jaw tightened at that.

"I am Sato (Y/n) of Kyushu," I answered coolly—brows furrowed and betraying only the faintest crack in my expression.

"(Y/n) it is, then." His lips twisted into a mocking smile, thin and sharp as the rest of him—he was always leaning forward, like a vulture poised to peck, his gangly limbs too long while his cheeks were sunken and blade-like.

And those eyes—slitted, yellow sclera encircling burnt-orange irises like a predator watching prey too stubborn to run.

He prowled deeper into the room, uninvited, his gaze grazing over every surface—I remained near the door, careful not to glance toward the servant's entrance.

I could feel its presence like a weight at my back—the place where Izuku was hidden with the Prince.

"Do you need to speak with me about something?" I questioned and tried my best to keep my tone neutral—letting a look of confusion grace my features.

He sank into a chair, making himself perfectly at home "I wish to know where His Highness is."

"Apparently, he's gone missing," I tilted my chin "Your guards were kind enough to let me know two seconds ago."

The Duke hummed, brushing his fingers over the goblet I had Shoto drink from earlier—he seemed to savor the touch, like it held answers only he could read.

"I thought you might know where he'd gone."

"Why would I know where the Prince is?" I chuffed out a laugh, shaking my head incredulously—as if his words were the dumbest thing he could've come up with.

Gaslight.

"He chose you at the ball, didn't he?" The question came as if it were plucked from idle thought, but there was nothing idle in his tone.

"But once he found out what I did, he sent me back to the servants' quarters and only after another lady intervened was I allowed to sleep here— He knows I'm nothing of value, so there's no reason for him to speak to me again."

I let a hint of sadness coat my words and the room fell into silence.

Then his eyes flicked up to meet mine, sharp and cutting "And yet he risked his life to save you from those large wolves, did he not?"

"He heard someone screaming and would've done that for anyone." I shrugged while the Duke's gaze swept the room again—hawk-like, measuring, and calculating.

"I wonder why he hasn't sent you away."

"He said he would when my injuries were healed." I kept my voice flat—simple and boring.
