—First Person POV.—
I stood beside the Duke of Sadoshima, actually kind of enjoying our conversation—though I had to remind myself constantly that he wasn't just any stable boy or servant.
And that meant cutting myself off anytime a slip of a joke tried to break free from my lips.
After enduring another dance with a young baron's son, who sported prominent front teeth—that I was internally trying not to stare at as he whisked me across the ballroom.
Despite a few missteps, including a moment where I accidentally stepped on his foot, he thankfully just kept smiling and pretended not to mind.
What a champ.
The sole reason I even went with the man was to give Lady Itsuka the opportunity to converse with the Prince directly—who definitely came off as less intimidating when I was speaking with him, one on one.
A part of me would have to admit that he was actually a little fun to be around— Granted, he didn't seem like much of a talker from the very beginning.
If only the Lady had the chance to engage more with him, maybe she'd catch onto it too. Surely, in time, he would come to adore her and choose her as his bride.
Who could resist her sweet smile and serene attitude? She embodied sophistication yet exuded warmth and hospitality—everything a Queen should be. His Highness might be able to recognize her charms, even if it were just for the duration of two dances.
And at least during the dance, Lady Daki had decided to cease her venomous glares from across the room.
I swear, the night just got started and I've had a collective amount of five heart attacks and even lost count of the nasty looks I caught in the corner of my eye.
So there I was, muddling through the dances.
I twirled around the floor with the baron's son— But as the music picked up again, he whisked off to another partner, leaving me momentarily alone.
Then, to my surprise, the Duke of Sadoshima extended his hand again, asking me to dance with a sharp toothed grin presented along his features.
I politely declined, and he nodded in understanding, and now we stood there, engaged in conversation—while Lady Daki monopolized his Highness's attention.
"Were you excited about Prince Todoroki's invitation to Oyashima Castle?" The Duke inquired with a boastful tone "I thought it was a great vacation!"
"It's been a pretty fun surprise," I replied, a little distracted by his fluffy and long tan eyelashes as he beamed down at me—before clearing my throat "And I'll bet, Lady Itsuka mentioned you're a blacksmith?"
His dark gaze seems to brighten at that, raising up a hand to brush through his smoky grey locks—further fluffing the mess along his head, but it seemed Tetsu liked it that way.
