—Third Person POV.—

The Prince struggled to keep focus on the numbers and lists sprawled across his desk, detailing the expenses of the previous month—despite his efforts, his mind kept drifting, forcing him to blink and reread the same page about three times now.

Due to this, his mismatched brows had knit together in slight frustration when his chancellor appeared by his side, holding out a parchment.

"Here are my notes from today's outing to town," He announced, causing a heterochromic gaze to flicker upwards before a sigh escapes his lips "Summarize it for me, please."

The request was small, earning an earnest nod from Ojiro before he cleared his throat "In my estimation, Lady Itsuka and Lady (Y/n) passed the compassion test, your Highness."

"Why?" Shoto Todoroki inquired with the intrigued tilt of his head.

In spite of the fatigue originally filtering across his features, he had spoken up—and his chancellor easily flipped the paper over, letting him glance at the near chicken scratch scribbles that vaguely was a form of writing.

The Prince blinked, but didn't say anything about the fact he absolutely could not understand the illegible gibberish before him.

Instead, he fixed to just nod along with Ojiro's rambles.

"Lady Itsuka was the only one who gave coins to the children, while Lady (Y/n) called for your attention and requested to buy them food," He explained, his voice tinged with admiration.

And then the chancellor suddenly perked up.

"—Though it wasn't part of the assessment, I also took note of her concern for the civilians nearly trampled by Lady Tanaka, and her random kindness towards a stray cat."

He paused as he pulled his arm back and settled the paper into his little book—clearing his throat towards the Prince's confused stare "Only because I know you have a fondness for felines."

—First Person POV.—

As dusk settled in, casting a warm glow through the shuttered windows—Itsuka and I found ourselves nestled in the comfort of my bedchamber.

The song of a bird fluttered from outside and brought a natural comfort to the air in our conversation.

"I'm pretty sure.." I started, keeping my eyes on the ceiling with a thoughtful tilt of my head—and my voice fell to a whisper in the dimming light "That the Prince, his chancellor, and Hagakure are testing us."

"Testing?" The Lady repeated before snapping her fingers in understanding "You mean how closely the chancellor and his Highness watched us in town."

Flipping over onto my stomach, I nodded as she met my eye—her expression mirroring the flickering candlelight.
