—First Person POV.—
After a certainTravelerssudden departure, the evening found me once more in Itsuka's room—playing a few board games before finally deciding to retire for the night.
As I was making my way over to the door, I heard her hands clap behind me with a following "Oh, wait!" Causing my head to tilt as I glanced back over my shoulder in confusion.
A warm smile graced her lips as she rushed over to the vanity "Since you're heading out, could you return the book I borrowed?" Her teal eyes met mine with the request as she approached.
The candle light made her taller figure tower over mine while I took the book from her grasp, nodding lightly and earning a 'thank you' from the Lady before heading out into the castle's corridors.
The moon casts through the open windows, painting the halls in a soft hue that made my shadow fall along the walls—footsteps hushed in tune with the night.
On the way to the library, I passed by one patrolling guard, who simply bowed his head in both respect and acknowledgement before continuing on his way.
When I finally made it to the door, I cracked it open and glanced inside first—checking, and thankfully catching no sign of the Prince, which drew a soft sigh from my lips.
I stepped inside, passing through the middle of the room where the faint scent of aged parchment brushed over my senses.
It didn't take long to find its designated place before returning the book on the second shelf.
Turning to leave, I passed through the middle of the room and pause mid-stride when my gaze flickered off to the desk—where that pile of paper cranes sat and moonlight filtered through the windows, bathing the origami in a silvery glow.
A few had fallen off when I passed by earlier, disturbed by my presence and staring at me from the ground like silent witnesses.
With a dejected sigh on my tongue, I crouched down to pick them up and place the few back on the cluttered desk—hands idly picking at the last one in my grasp and tugging on the wing a bit.
For a paper crane murderer, he's definitely improved..
"Lady (Y/n)?"
That familiar voice broke through the library's quiet air, making me jump as I instinctively spun around—my hip slamming into the desks edge and sending the paper cranes cascading to the floor.
Ouch— Again, really??
A silent curse had shot through my head along with the pain and I stumble to a stop as a hand closed around my wrist—steadying me with a firm grip that simultaneously caught my waist as he closed the distance.
I blinked up at the man before me, one of his mismatched eyes overtaken by flames that flickered as he cranes his head down at me.
The obsidian scales along his features glisten against the lighting, one silvery pupil fixated on mine as we stood stock still in the silence—but that's soon broken by the sound of rustling paper at our feet.
