—First Person POV.—
The castle was still the next morning.
The usual clamor of servants and nobles had dwindled to silence, most of the household off attending the grand hunt.
The absence of bustling footsteps and muffled chatter left the air light and undisturbed—filled only by the soft rustling of leaves and the occasional birdsong that drifted through the open windows.
Itsuka and I had taken full advantage of the rare silence by wandering through the empty halls for a while and eventually heading out into the gardens after breakfast.
Which, was cherry pastry-less due to the bakers being unable to refill the fresh basket that'd miraculously disappeared last night.
Zero regrets.
The sun streamed through the branches above, painting shifting patterns across the dirt paths.
Streaks of color passed in my peripheral—flowers constantly in full bloom that cascaded in waves of vibrant reds, blues, and golds.
"You'd think you'd enjoy the quiet," Itsuka teased, bumping her shoulder against mine and making me stumbled slightly off the path "It's not every day you can walk through here without tripping over a gaggle of nobles."
"Oh, I'm enjoying it," I chuckle—straightening myself to attempt to push back into her with just as much force "I just didn't realize the peace would make you attempt my murder though, geez, what do they feed you guys in Shikoku?"
My question is pushed by the fact I couldn't even get the Lady to stutter in her step—instead, I reluctantly backed down to start trekking by her side once more.
She rolled her eyes at that "Someone woke up on the right side of the bed, you look like you've been glowing all day."
"Really?" I inquired with a snicker—shaking my head incredulously as we rounded a corner near the edge of the gardens, where the plant-life grew thicker, their sweet scent heavy in the air.
My eyes flickered up from the Lady at my side and immediately caught sight of the figure amongst the rosebeds—his dark cloak contrasting harshly against the scenery.
Izuku was standing near a trellis, his fingers brushing the leaves of a climbing vine.
The dark fabric encasing his body was faintly catching the breeze while sunlight broke through the canopy above, glinting off his emerald hair as he studied the plant before him—seemingly unaware of our presence.
"Isn't that the prince's.. Friend?" Itsuka wondered, lowering her voice as she cast me a sly glance.
I rolled my eyes at that.
"Don't start."
Before she could press further, the Traveler's head snapped our way—alerted by one of our voices I'm guessing.
