—First Person POV.—
A knock reverberates from the door to my temporary chambers and I call out a light "Come in!" Letting the wood swing open to reveal a smiling Itsuka.
"Are you ready?" She wonders when I crouch down—idly tying the worn slippers onto my feet and nodding "Yeah, just needed my shoes."
I stood up, taking a step and internally praying the things would last just a little longer—because in truth, these shoes were on life support, but they were one of the only ones left behind by Lady Hikari.
They just needed to last a little over a month from this point.
We moved quietly down the corridors and grand staircase—passing by the door that led to the servants kitchen and making me wonder what'd happened to the punishment bread Daki and I baked?
I think a part of me would be offended if it was thrown away— I was covered in flour for that shit.
As we pushed open the familiar wooden door that led to the gardens—crisp yet warm morning air wrapped around us, and I drew in a heavy breath of the lovely petrichor.
"How'd you manage to escape Kaoru?" I questioned out loud while tossing a glance to the Lady at my side.
"Sent her out for a morning snack, and then left her a little note." Her features lifted with a smile, one hand lightly fiddling with her ochre ponytail as I blinked "Won't she be pissed?"
"Probably, but I think it'll be worth it," Itsuka opted to nod before her gaze flickers up in thought "It's been really hard to get some kind of conversation going with his Highness these past weeks."
"You think you'll find a way to fall for him?" My voice wondered after her comment, and I'm trying not to make it obvious my curiosity's piqued.
Lady Itsuka paused—her smile falling with an incredulous look now painting her features "What? No, I was hoping you'd fall in love with him instead."
"No, no, he definitely favors you." I deadpan and her brows raise in surprise "Don't lie to me (Y/n), I doubt he sees me as a potential wife," Those teal eyes roll as if I was talking nonsense.
And I open my mouth to respond when she fixates her attention forward—sighing gently "I know you've had a lot more time with his Highness than me, and I don't want to argue, so for today let's just enjoy his company."
There's a pause between us, giving my brain a few seconds to process her words before my response dies on my tongue and I reluctantly nod in agreement.
As we made our way through the garden, the rains humidity hung thick in the morning air—fanning over my features and making me squint at the sun starting to light up the horizon.
Prince Todoroki came into view with the rising heat, his stature composed beneath that tree of hanging Angels Trumpets— Which, isn't really fair, hasn't he been adamant about telling me they're poisonous??
