—First Person POV.—

"The truth is," I start with a sigh on my tongue "I just never learned to dance."

Itsuka's gaze widened and her expression flashed me an incredulous look "How?? Didn't anyone ever try to teach you?"

And all I could offer was a shrug.

"My father never bothered to hire a tutor," I leisurely admit, stringing the lie together and casting my eyes off to the side as I incorporated the things I caught wind of during my time with Hikari.

While it's true the Duke of Kyushu made her learn every noble dance imaginable—I knew of other dances from the festivals with other peasant girls, hidden far away from the castle's eyes.

I should probably feel grateful for my place in the Duke's household, spared from toiling in fields— But how do I beat around the bush that I only knew dances unfit for the ballroom?

"Didn't your father host any balls or parties at the castle? Wouldn't he want to find you a noble husband?" The Lady before me pressed.

"No," I shook my head, feigning innocence "As the second daughter, I wouldn't inherit anything anyways so there really was no point in me doing all of that." My voice moves on to explain.

Thankfully, balls were a rarity even for Lady Hikari—I overheard the Duke once say he saw no point in hosting dances if he planned to arrange her marriage himself.

Huh, maybe that's another reason why she eloped with Sir Itadori.

"But what if his Highness is upset with you for not dancing? You should let me teach you," Itsuka insisted, her teal gaze narrowing with determination.

And I don't hide the skepticism that overtakes my expression—brows now raising in disbelief "You really think you can teach me in just one afternoon?"

"Maybe not all the dances, but just enough to get by." She claims, earning another wary glance from my eyes "But how will I know which dance they're doing?" I deadpan "I'm going to embarrass myself."

"Trust me," Itsuka smiled sweetly "You'll have so much more fun if you dance— We'll learn a couple of simple ones, and if you don't recognize the others, just say you're tired." She excuses.

And after hoisting her self up from the chair across from me—she rushes over, grabbing my hands and tugging me up after her.

Wow, she is strong—

Despite my reservations, the idea did sound appealing to its own extent—so, we practiced until laughter replaced our breathlessness, and the fear of embarrassment gave way to excitement.

The sunlight basking throughout the room had started to dim when Kaoru came storming through the door.

Her disapproving gaze sliced through the air like butter as it zeroed in on me and the Lady—who was currently too distracted with laughing to initially notice the maidservant.
