—First Person POV.—
That evening, Itsuka and I descended to the Great Hall, where the Prince's guests were gathered for games—chess, backgammon, and Nine Men's Morris.
The ochre-haired Lady had her arm hooked with mine as we stepped into the bustling hall—both of our eyes casting up from our conversation to catch the Lady of Honshu with her usual entourage..
I know one of them is Tanaka— But I can't really remember the other one's name.
Anyways, Lady Daki flashed us a smile—her fangs easily catching the dim light and causing Itsuka's grip to tighten on my arm.
"Lady (Y/n) and Lady Itsuka," She called out, her voice as sweet as fresh honey "Come here!" I took a step in the little groups direction—feeling the grasp on my arm hesitate but eventually follow me over.
"How was your picnic with his Highness? I bet you were terrified." She purrs and those lime eyes sparkle with mischief.
"Why would we be scared?" Itsuka retorted, blinking her teal gaze down at the other Lady and lightly cocking her head to the side with the question.
All while I was struggling to keep my face neutral—internally at war with suppressing the urge to roll my eyes at the bull-crap I know I'll be witnessing in just a few seconds.
Daki leaned in into us conspiratorially "Some people say," Her voice falls to a hush "—That his Highness killed his brother in that mysterious fire in the west wing to become the heir."
That lime gaze flickers between us, surveying our own expressions before continuing "And that woman who wandered into the ballroom, calling for 'Tōya?' She is his mother, and went mad when the fire killed her eldest son."
"Then why would the Prince keep her here if she probably knew he killed her son?" I couldn't help but wonder, quirking a brow at the Lady.
Daki raised her brows with a superior air in her tone "For his guilty conscience, it was his older brother after all, or to make himself look innocent— I only know what the servants tell mine." She hums.
Then glances me up and down "She always uncovers truths no one else knows."
"Like what you told his Highness about me?" I bite, meeting her gaze with my own (e/c) one "Are you accusing me?" Daki placed a hand over her chest—a look of exasperation now overtaking her beautiful features.
"You shouldn't spread rumors about people— Whatever you heard, it's not true about me." I state with a deadpan falling along my features.
Daki erased the shocked innocence from her expression and narrowed her eyes "Why do you hide the truth, Lady (Y/n)?" She addressed with a sing-song tone.
She then gasped "Do you hope his Highness will marry you and think the child is his?"
Tanaka and the Lady of Tsushima— Nalani quickly exchanged surprised looks, then they both broke out into a laugh—hands flying up to half-cover their grins.
