—First Person POV.—
"Fair point." I shrug.
Then his attention draws back over me and he shifts to extend his right arm out "Let's go, I'll escort you to the Great Hall before anyone notices we're gone."
"If you're missing, I bet they'll send a whole search team out within an hour." I comment, but don't take his hand for a moment—causing the Prince to pause, and do that subtle tilt of his head in questioning.
With that, I awkwardly clear my throat "Could I hold your other hand?" My voice fell to an embarrassed hush "Your claws are cool."
He made now move for a long moment, gaze fixated on me and boring into my soul before he shifted his cane into his right hand—lightly reaching out, palm up and claws on full display.
The action calmed my anxiety as I slipped my hand into his, roughened grasp gently closing in around mine and leading me out into the empty corridors.
Thankfully, Lady Daki was oblivious to the truth about my situation— And the Prince seemed to trust my words, simply dismissing her accusations as unfounded.
As I entered the Great Hall beside him, the guests were already seated and engaging in their own lively conversations that filled the room with idle chatter.
Daki, as expected, occupied the seat to the right of the head of the table—strategically positioning herself to easily capture his Highness's attention.
With all the places filled at that end of the table, there was no choice for me but to take a seat at the opposite end— Truth be told, it worked just fine, since Lady Itsuka and the Duke of Sadoshima were already seated there.
It was clear that the other ladies were oblivious to the true status of the Duke, since he appeared a bit more burly compared to the other noblemen.
As a blacksmith, he was already a wealthy man and is accompanied by a large inheritance from birth.
With a subtle tug, the Prince guided me off towards that end of the room and he stopped beside Lady Itsuka, gesturing for me to take the seat next to her.
After pushing in my chair, I thanked him before turning my attention to Itsuka.
Only to be flashed with a wave of confusion as a few gasps escaped into the air and heads snapped our way—shocked expressions painting everyone's faces as the chair to my left made a sound of movement.
He chose to sit at the far end of the table, with me now on his right and the Duke of Sadoshima on his left.
Glancing over his guests, the Prince's face was back to its natural blank "I trust my guests won't mind," He tonelessly announced "But I'll be seated at this end of the table tonight."
A murmur rippled throughout the gathering and I refrained from glancing down the table towards Daki, who I could practically feel now internally strangling me alive.
