When it was finally time to turn in for the night, after discovering dinosaur bones with Cybertronian DNA and possibly getting a step ahead on the Decepticon's plans, the others were bridged home and I personally requested a drive from Smokescreen.

At first, the now blue clad rookie just looked at me, shocked and frozen in place. He turned to Magnus as he stepped up in front of us.

"What is it that you request?" He asked me.

I lifted my head, pulling my shoulders back naturally, "I am requesting a personal drive home tonight, from Smokescreen, sir."

"And why is transporting through the ground bridge not suitable for you?"

"A ground bridge is suitable for me, sir. However, I wish to formally catch up with my guardian. It shouldn't be longer than an hour at most." I explained, "Permission to leave the base with him?"

He hummed, looking between Smokescreen and I, "Permission granted. No longer than one hour."

"Yes, sir. Thank you."

He gave a curt nod, and turned without another word, or glance at Smokescreen.

I turned to my guardian and smiled, this time he seemed to snap out of his frozen state and quickly dropped into his vehicle form, lifting his door open, I slipped inside the drivers seat and he sped out into the night.

"That was amazing!" Smoke giggled, "Where'd you learn to talk like a soldier?!"

"I told you. I worked with my father and MECH for a few years before turning them in and joining Team Prime."

"Yeah, yeah, I remember! But I don't remember you being so crisp because of it." He continued, "He asked what was up and you immediately got into formation and addressed him like he was your commander, even though he's not!"

"Well, it is how he wishes to be addressed."

"Still." He continued, relaxing into a steady speed, "I think you impressed him."

"Really?"

"Hell yeah. You impressed everyone." He mused, "But I gotta ask, why'd you insist on going for a drive?"

"Well, for starters, you looked miserable back there."

He chuckled lightly.

"And, secondly, I wanted to ask about what happened during those days of radio silence."

He was quiet.

I hesitated, and then found the right words, "If you want to share, that is. I know you were with Optimus, and used the forge to save his life. But, I don't know, what did you talk about? What was it like, being alone underground? Even above ground, it was really hard for Raf and I."

I sat and waited for him to find his words too, turning to look out the window to the stars. Him and Bee had just gotten back from a failed mission against Shock Wave trying to get another bone out of his hands. Sound Wave came for backup and managed to get a piece of the bone despite everyone's efforts, and they retreated without much of a fight. I know he was probably disappointed in himself, but he'd been pouty all day today, so it was more than just this mission.

"When I was sitting there with Optimus underground, I tried everything to save him. All the first aid knowledge I had, I put into trying to save him before I realized I might be able to use the Forge to fix him. He was so banged up, Aly. I'd never thought I'd live to see a day that a Prime was on deaths door step by such... I dunno, casual means? Another soldier dead in an explosion—it seemed too regular to be fitting for a Prime, especially him."
