Ultra Magnus was of some high status in the auto bot league and had no intention of dropping any formalities. He was the only other leader that could stand in for Optimus Prime.
"He's also, by the book." Jack whispered as Ratchet began to run Ultra Magnus through our current situation.
"What do you mean?"
"Military jargon." He shrugged.
Ah. I turned back to the two bots. Ultra Magnus stood tall like Optimus, but he had a different aura to him. Still strong, powerful, influential and trust worthy... but also... focused. Too focused.
"The communications link needs further calibration to be compatible with auto bot frequencies. The ground bridge, however, is fully operational."
"That would have come in handy when Robo-Dragon was trying to eat us for breakfast." Miko spoke with a smirk, unbeknownst to Jack trying to wave her down to shut up.
Oh... I see the problem now.
"The indigenous population of this planet, do they all display the same disregard for authority?" Ultra Magnus asked.
"No. Mostly just Miko." Ratchet replied.
Another ship entered our range and I looked up as Ultra Magnus loaded his canons. A military jet. Fowler got here fast, and Jack's mother was with him.
June ran right to Jack, gripping him tight as I walked up to meet them. She held onto Raf and Miko and assured their families are safe. Then, she looked up to me, "You don't look so good."
"I'm alright." I nodded to her, "I'm just glad we're all alive."
"We'll have to get you a check up once this is all over." She looked up to the bots, "Who's the new guy?"
"Ultra Magnus." I introduced, "Optimus Prime's Lieutenant, and thus, the next in line to command."
No one could determine if Optimus was alive. Fowler was sure no one walked out of that explosion, and insisted we begin a plan of attack without him. Luckily, Ultra Magnus agreed, and was ready to proceed no matter what. The mission must prevail, no matter what.
For a moment, as we headed back inside the abandoned ship, I wondered if Ultra Magnus would have decided not to give up the keys for us. He would have seen the small sacrifice for victory, a victory that he, they, deserved. Ratchet lifted us humans onto the dashboard again and Raf quickly began to help set up.
I looked at Jack, and then to Bee. Neither of them would choose the keys over the lives of innocent people. I wanted to be like them, and I'm sure, Ultra Magnus would learn what it meant to be an auto bot here on Earth, too.
"Auto bots, we remain vastly outnumbered, and despite our munitions, do not currently possess the fire power necessary to compromise the Decepticon Citadel."
"Uncle Sam's military does." Fowler replied, "I just can't let him make a move as long as Megatron's ray guns are pointing at Washington."
"Then we must infiltrate darkmount, in order to nullify its fusion canons."
"Unfortunately," Ratchet interrupted, "It seems the fortress is heavily shielded against unauthorized ground bridges. Even those originating from Decepticon technology."
"Guess we'll have to sneak past enemy lines. Wrecker style." Wheel Jack pounded his fists together, and I blinked. I'd never met him face to face before... he reminded me of a much more reckless, male version of Miko.
"I couldn't deal with 'wrecker style' back on Cybertron, and I refuse to deal with it here." Ultra Magnus replied, quickly shutting him down, "Now we require a means of thinning the decepticon ranks to even the odds, if we have any hope of completing this mission, or surviving it."
