Aaliyah stepped over the soft grass in the grave yard. It was dark, she had just left the Sheriffs station. She stoped at the grave labeled with with the name of her ex-lover. She kneeled down in front of the stone just like she did every week. She stared down at the ground in front of her unable to look at the grave, or the message on it: a code Allison came up with that she intended to live by.

We protect those who cannot protect themselves.

She had betrayed the code over and over again, and she felt like she was letting Allison down. "I'm sorry." She began. "I couldn't do it. I couldn't keep you safe, I couldn't keep Stiles safe. ...And I can't keep Liam safe. How the hell am I supposed to protect every supernatural in Beacon Hills from the benefactor if I couldn't protect you?" She sniffled back tears as she picked at the grass.

"Scott messaged me and said that a couple of kids working for the benefactor tried to kill him. And they almost killed Brett. I didn't even know he was a werewolf. Just thought he was an asshole who teased my brother." Aaliyah's paused to sniffle. "Things are getting bad again. For just a moment, I thought- I thought that maybe I could be happy. I thought that we would find Derek, and I'd be with Stiles, and maybe I'd heal from losing you, eventually.

"I remember, one time you told me that there's always hope. And I wish I could believe you, but I don't. Because it's never gonna get better. And every time I say that someone disagrees with me. They say 'it's okay, it'll get better with time, I promise.' But it's been years, and the only time it was slightly better was with you. Time fixes nothing. And now you're gone, and it hasn't stopped. It just keeps getting worse and worse." Aaliyah paused, not knowing what to say next. Her phone buzzed with a text from her dad.
