41. Her Tormenting Absence

"Thakur ji!"

I sibilated under my breath, when the belt was hurled on my back another time.

I was losing consciousness. Yes, I undoubtedly had a habit of getting beaten up by my father, but the last four months had changed my body. It has become delicate now. My thakur ji treats me with love and care, so I certainly wasn't ready for such a behaviour.

Even when my eyes were about to close, I remembered only two faces - the Lotus face of Sri Hari Narayan and the handsome face of my husband.

The belt smacked my back once again, and this is when everything blackened before my eyes.

Ragini had flaked out. Her Maasi was still screaming for help. She was expecting someone to speak up for Ragini, but it seemed that the village people were actually enjoying her devastated state.

The moment Guddu was about to lift up the belt again, a child came running to everyone.

"Manjle thakur ki gaadi aa rahi. Yaha aa rahi gaav ki taraf."

"Manjle thakur's car is arriving. It's heading towards the village only."

He yelped, and all the children began running behind him to follow that car.

This is a refreshing task for the kids of the village - chasing cars.

Guddu's breath hitched, at the mention of 'Dhanraj Singh Thakur's' name. Somewhere even he was aware that Dhanraj loved Ragini immensely. The news of him thrashing himself with that spike embedded belt had spread like forest fire everywhere.

But poor Ragini wasn't conscious anymore to realise that her thakur ji had come here to save her.
