disclaimers: I don't own ggbb and my nephew called me fat

"photos?" joanna asks
"yes, recent photos of him," pip nods
"photos from the memorial would be most desired but you probably don't have any." amaris adds
"no, but i did take lots on jamie's birthday last thursday." joanna says as she unlocks her phone
"one where his face shows clearly?" pip questions
"here, have a look through." joanna slid her phone across the table, "there's several if you scroll left."
amaris leaned closer to her sister in order to see the photos as well, the first one showed jamie on his own, on the other side of the kitchen table, his dark blonde hair pushed to the side and he was grinning, an overly wide grin that stretched into his rosy cheeks, as his chin glowed orange from the lit candles on the caterpillar birthday cake below. in the next photo he was bent low over the cake, cheeks puffed out to blow and the flames stretching away to escape from him. in the third photo jamie was looking down at the cake, a long grey knife in his hand with a red plastic band between handle and blade. he was sticking the point of the knife in the caterpillar's neck, cracking the chocolate outer shell. the next photo the caterpillar's head was detached, and jamie was looking up, smiling directly at the camera. then the cake was gone, replaced by a present in jamie's hands, the silver-spotted wrapping paper half ripped away.
"oh yeah," conner snorts, "jamie's face when he realized dad bought him a fitbit for his birthday."
conner was right jamies smile, while stil evident, was strained and forced. pip swiped once again and a video played. conner and jamie were in the frame jamies arm drapped over his brothers shoulders.
"smile boys," past joanna said.
"we are," past jamie mumbled, doing his best to not disturb his smile while talking.
"what's it doing?" past joanna mutters to herself.
"for goodness sake," past conner laughs, "she's accidentally taking a damn video again. aren't you?"
"oh mom." jamies voice was limed with amusement and endearment, "again?"
"i'm not," past joanna's voice spoke, "i didn't press that, it's this stupid phone."
"always the phone's fault, isn't it?" conner asks raising a brow while looking at his brother before they both burst out laughing. their laughs only getting higher as Joanna insisted she hasn't pressed the button.
"let me see, jo." past arthur says and jamies arm tightens around connor’s shoulder, bringing him to jamies chest where he messed up his hair with his other hand while conner protested through his giggles. and then the video stopped.
"sorry," amaris mumbles noticing how Conner had tensed and Joannas eyes tore holes in the ground. "can you please email us all of these, connor? and any other recent photos?" she asks and Conner nods
"yep, will do."
"alright." pip says standing up and packing her things away while amaris looked down at her phone in her lap to check the time and if Ravi had text.
"are you guys going?" Conner asks standing too.
"one last thing to do before we go," pip says zipping her bag,"we need to search jamie’s room. is that ok?"
"yes. yes, of course," joanna agrees, "can we come too?"
"sure," pip says glancing at her sister who wasn't paying attention to anyone else in the room instead  on her phone as she texted someone. "have you already looked through it?" pip asks while bugging amaris to get her to pay attention.
"not really," joanna shook her head while amaris stood up and followed conner and pip to jamies room, "i went in there earlier when we first realized he was gone. i did a quick look to see if he’d slept here last night and left early in the morning. but no, curtains were still open. jamie’s not the sort of person who opens his curtains in the morning or makes his bed. jamie’s a little untidy," joanna admits as they stop infront of jamies room, "it’s a bit messy in there."
"that’s fine, mari's messy too." pip says and amaris' draw drops in offense.
"I am not messy, im just not a fucking clean freak like you. besides ravi insists on organizing my shit every other time he comes over." amaris defends as conner opens his door.
"can i, um . . . ?" pip trails off as she steps into the room
"yeah, do whatever you have to. right, mom?" conner says and Joanna nods pip headed straight for jamies desk and opened his computer asking uf anyone knew the password when they said they didnt pip decided to try a verity of random ones, even getting help from conner and joanna but none worked so pip moved on after asking Joanna to continue while pip searched.
amaris had every intention to help pip search but she couldnt move, sbe couldnt enter jamies room. it felt wrong, to enter someone's room without permission  sure she'd done it before with andies room and once when she found ravi crying in sals but the situation was differant andie and sal were dead, jamie wasnt, atleast from what they knew, and amaris could t bring herself to step into jamies room without his permission.
pip noticed her sisters hesitance and said nothing understanding it to a certain level so she wouldn't make her come into the room if she didn't want to instead pip walked over to her and showed her the slip of paper she found in jamies stuff. on it was written: Hillary F Weiseman left 11
"is this Jamie’s handwriting?" pip asks and conner nods. "hillary weiseman, do you know her?"
"no, never heard that name," joanna says and Conner nods in agreement. pip and Joanna talk back and forth for a minute while amaris pulls out her phone and looks up the name
"here we go," amaris says, "we have a hillary f. weiseman who lives in fairview. oh this can't be right it says she died in 2006."
"must someone else. we can look into that later." pip says handing the slope of paper to amaris who slips it into her back pocket after taking a photo of it.
"you think it’s a clue?" conner asks.
"everything’s a clue until we discount it," pip says as she walks back to him, "connor, without disturbing anything too much, can you search the pockets in all of jamie’s clothes?"
"for what?" he questions
"anything." pip shrugs looking around the room.
"just tissues and spare change," connor reports back.
"no luck here," joanna adds.
pip found a woman's watch and after checking that it wasn't Joannas or zoes she took a photo and told conner joanna that that was all for the night but that they could continue to try to unlock jamies computer.
as pip and amaris walked out of the Reynolds house they were silent, both racking their brain for any idea or anything that seemed to stand out to them but they found nothing.
amaris let's out a sigh shaking her head as she chew her lip, anxiety taking over her.

"it's okay mari. it's gonna be okay" pip promises as she pulls her sister closer to her, and amaris believed her because if pip said it, it had to be true.
