disclaimers: I don't own ggbb and I'm like dying cause of my asthma

"pip, mari? hello?" leanne asks trying to gain her daughter's attention. pip was looking down at her laptop and mari was stuffing the few items of ravis that he had forgot into her bag to give to him next time she saw him.

"yes, sorry. iwas just saving something." pip closed her laptop as amaris wrapped ravis jacket around herself.

"what do those posters mean?" leanne asks

"it's pretty clear on there mom, jamies missing." amaris sighed as she slipped into on of the kitchen stools just left of where pip stood.

"don’t get smart with me," leanne warns her oldest daughter who sighs in response.

Victor had stood leaning against the counter an equal distance from leanne and mari and pip, he always liked to deter on the middle ground during a fight.

"yes, it is what you think," pip finally looked up to meet her mom's eyes, "conner and joanna are really worried. they think something’s happened to jamie. so yes, me and mari are investigating his disappearance. and yes, we're recording the investigation for season two of the show. They asked us to, and we said yes." pip spoke carefully to try to not set off any landmines.

"but I don’t understand," leanne spoke "you guys were done with all this. after everything you went through last time. the danger you put yourselves in."

"we know –" pip was cut off by leanne

"you ended up in the hospital, pippa, with an overdose. they had to pump your stomach. you and mari were being threatened by a now convicted killer." amaris closed her eyez at the indirect mention of elliot, she let out a breath as she fought off the memories replacing them with good ones, "and barney –"

"mom, we know," amaris voice cracks as Elliot face continued to pass through her mind

"we know all the terrible things that happened last year because of us, we don’t need your constant reminders. we know, ok? I know we were selfish, I know we were was obsessive, I know we were was reckless and if I said sorry to you every day it still wouldn’t be enough, ok?" pip adds to her sisters words, "I’m sorry. I feel guilty all the time and I know mari does too because she can barely sleep, so we don’t need you to tell us. we're the experts in out own mistakes."

"so why would you choose to put yourself through anything like that again?" leanne  asks her voice softening as she watches amaris chewing on her nails and her eyes focused on the wall with a far away look.

A cartoon giggle intureppted the conversation making Victor finally speak up, "joshua. turn the TV down please!"

"but it’s SpongeBob and it’s only on fourteen," josh's small voice shouted back.

"joshua . . ." Victor trailed off.

"ok, ok." Josh sighed and the tv sounds quietened.

"why?" leanne asks again and amaris sighs.

"because we have to," mari whispers, "and just so you know we said no. we told connor we couldn’t do it. then pip went and talked to the police and they told her that they couldn't investigate it because of some fucking formalities. the truth is, mom, we didn’t really have a choice, I didn’t want to do it, I don't think pip wanted to do it but the police couldnt help and conner and joanna came to us, asked us for help. and what if we said no again and jamie was eventually found but he was dead because we didn't find him when we could have?"

"mari, it is not you or your sisters job to –" leanne was cut off by pip

"it isn’t our job, but it feels like our responsibility, i know you’ll both have a thousand arguments why that’s not true, but I’m telling you the way it feels to us. it is our responsibility because we started something and can’t now take it back. whatever it did to me, to all of us, we still solved a double murder case last year. now we have six hundred thousand subscribers who will listen to us and we're in a position to use that, to help people. to help Jamie. that’s why we had no choice. we might not be the only one swho can help, but we're the only ones here right now. this is jamie, mom. I couldn’t live with myself if something happened to him and I said no because it was the easier choice. the safer choice. the choice my parents would want me to make. the choice that would help my sister be able to move on from all the shit last year properly. that’s why we're doing it. not because we want to, because we have to. we’ve accepted that, and I hope you both can too." amaris was more than greatful that her sister had taken over with the talking because pip was always the one who could be more level headed with her arguments while amaris let her emotions take control.

out or the corner of her eye, amaris saw victor nodding, leanne saw it too, she turned to him with a frown.

"victor . . ." leanne trailed off

"leanne," he stepped forward now directly in the space between leanne and the two teens, "clearly they're not being reckless; they've put a lot of consideration into their decision. that’s all we can ask of them, because it is their decision. their eighteen now." Victor turned and smiled at the two girls, his eyes glazing the same way they did when he told the story of how he met them. pip and amaris has been forced to accompany leanne on a house showing because childcare had fallen through. pip had followed them around eagerly telling Victor a new animal fact every time they went into a new room, while amaris continuously shushed her and apologized to him sending him a sweet smile everytime. he always said it was all three of them that stole his heart that day.

amaris sent him that same sweet smile and felt some of her anxiety ease.

"and what about the risks, victor?" leanne asks though all fight was gone from her voice.

"everything has risks, even crossing the road. it’s no different than if they  were a journalist, or a police officer. and would we keep them from either of those things because of the potential risks? and also: i am very big. if anyone even thinks about hurting my daughters, i will rip off their head." Victors words make amaris and pip laugh, leanne fighting her own smile

"fine," leanne sighs givibg in, "pip, mari, i’m not your enemy, i’m your mom. i only care about your guys' safety and happiness, the two things you lost last time. it’s my job to protect you, whether you like it or not. so fine, i accept your decision. but i will be watching to make sure you two don’t become obsessive to the point where it’s unhealthy, and you better believe me when I say there will be no missing school- I am talking to you amaris-- or neglecting your revision. i’m sure everything is fine, but if there is any sign of danger, even the slightest hint, i want you to come straight to us. promise me?"

"thank you. it won’t be like last time, i promise." pip promises with a glance at her sister, one of the main reasons it wouldn't be like last time was because Ravi wouldn't let it get like that. pip knew that for sure. ravi would not let the two of them face any danger if he could help it. "but i should warn you: i don’t think everything is fine. put it this way, i don’t think you’ll see jamie at work tomorrow morning."

"well," leannes voice was quiet, her lips in a thin line, and her face flushed, "all I’m saying is that jamie is probably ok and i’m sure this will turn out to be nothing. that’s why I don’t want you two to give too much of yourself to it."

"well, I mean hopefully it’s nothing," pip put a fruit into the bowl in the middle of the counter, "but there are a couple of red flags. his phone was turned off that night and hasn’t been on since. and he was acting strangely that day – out of character."

"i’m just saying, maybe acting strangely isn’t that out of character for jamie." leanne spoke also putting groceries away.

"wait, what?" amaris asks looking up from her phone where she had been texting Ravi letting him know she was in fact not grounded and alive and that she had the stuff he forgot and would put it on her desk for safe keeping.

"oh, nothing, i shouldn’t have said anything." leanne waved mari off.

"said anything about what? mom? do you know something about jamie?" pip asks

"I uh-" leanne got cut off by amaris.

"wait wait, let me just..." amaris trailed off as she busied herself with setting up pips laptop and the microphones while she racked her brain as to what her mother could know.
