"josh, mari! dinners ready." leanne calls and amaris sighs sending a respinse to ravis last text before shoving her phone into her back pocket and rushing downstairs.
amaris wasnts listening as pip and their parents talk about pips collage applications. sometimes it annoyed amaris how ontop of everything pip was. it set an expectation for their parents and amaris could never reach that expectation.
"mars, do you know what collage your going to apply to?" victor asks and amaris shakes her head looking down at her plate.
"no sorry, um ill get on that. i promise." amaris mumbles as she plays with her food.
pips train horn ringtone blares and barney jumps. amaris smiles as leanne scolds pip. amaris's phone vibrates in the pocket of ravis hoodie- no, she hasnt give it back. in fact she doesnt exactly plan on doing so, despite pip constant nagging. amaris found the hoodie quite comfortable and ravi hasnt said anything about it yet. --- glancing around the table making sure no one would see her and get her in trouble amaris pulls out her phone and turns it on, looking down at the screen she quickly reads over the notification. she felt the blood drain from her face and her stomach lurch. she quickly stands up and rushes to her bedroom closing the door behind her. amaris shakily grips her phone as her eyes rereads the text.
you dumb fucking bitch. you and your sister better leave this alone while you still can.
"fuck." amaris mumbles as she breathes heavily, there was no way this was a joke. it couldnt be.

-----

amaris hadnt gotten any sleep, neither had pip. but pip had come up with a plan, they'd get the burner from andies house. it shouldnt be that hard. plus there'd be three of them, if ravi ever gets ther-
"why are we here?" ravi asks cathing sight of the two girls.
"shhh." pip shushes him and grabs his sleeve to pull him behind the same tree the two girls were.
"shouldnt you too be at school?"
"we've pulled a sickie, ok? don’t make me feel worse about it than I already do."
"you've never pulled a sickie before?"
"she's only ever missed 4 days of school and that was because of chicken pox. pips a nerd." amaris answers for pip before covering her mouth as she yawns.
ravis lips tug into a smirk, "thats my hoodie."
"great observation, sun." amaris mumbles tugging the sleeves of the jacket over her hands. ravi laughs and shakes his head.
"what are we doing?" ravi asks again refering to the fact that the three stood, hiding behind a tree across the street from andie bells house.
"we've been here since just after eight, bcca left about twenty minutes ago; she’s interning over at the fairview Mail office. Dawn left just as I was arriving. My mum says she works part-time at a charity head office in Wycombe. It’s quarter past nine now, so she should still be out for a while. and there’s no alarm on the front of the house." pip says barely taking anytime to breathe.
"and, yet again, why are we here? tell me it’s not what i think it is." ravi says
"to break in." amaris says simply.
"we need that burner phone." pip adds.
"how did i know you two were gonna say that?" ravi groans
"it’s actual evidence, sun. actual physical evidence." amaris uses the nickname in hopes that ill get him to agree.
"proof that she was dealing drugs with howie. maybe the identity of the secret older guy Andie was seeing. If we find it, we can phone an anonymous tip in to the police and maybe they’ll reopen the investigation and actually find her killer." pip adds to her sisters words.
"ok, but here’s a quick observation. you’re asking me, the brother of the person everyone believes murdered Andie Bell, to break into the bell house? Not to mention the amount of trouble I would be in anyway as a brown kid breaking into a white family’s house." ravi says with a slightly tilted head.
"shit, ravi, im sorry, we werent thinking." pip says stepping back from the tree.
"im- im really sorry, we shouldnt have called you. you cant take the same risks me and pip can, im so sorry." amaris stumbles over her words, "um- may-maybe you could stay out here and be lookout or something."
"no," ravi mumbles running a hand through his hair, "if this is how we’re going to clear sal’s name, I have to be there for that. that’s worth the risk. it’s too important. i still think this is reckless and i’m crapping myself, but"--- ravi smiles at amaris ---"sun and moon, right?"
"your sure?" amaris asks, her hair falling into her face as she shifts.
"im sure, moon." ravi says reaching forward and tucking the hair behind her hair.
"okay." pip announces breaking the moment between her sister and ravi. "if it’s any consolation, we weren't  planning on getting caught."
"so what is the plan? break a window?" ravi asks as the three turn to look at the empty bell house.
"okay, so, future reference, ravi makes shit plans for breaking into houses." amaris says and ravi turns to her.
"well im sorry, i dont normally do illegal thing."
"i was planning to use a key. We live in fairview, everyone has a spare key outside somewhere." pip says before amaris could reply and start a mini arguement between herself and ravi.
"oh.... right. let’s go and scope out the target, sarge." ravi says and does a series of random military hand gestures.
"stop that." amaris mumbles and ravi listens immediately, which pip notices and shakes her head.
the three search for the key quietly and come up with nothing. amaris was grumpling about how the bells were begining to annoy her when something clicked in ravis brain.
"oh, surely not." ravi mumbles walking up to a wind chime and checking there. amaris turns and glares at him when two chimes click together.
"ravi!" amaris whispers to him, "what the f-"
she cuts herself off when ravi pulls his hand away from the wind chimes and a key in his hand, he hold up the key.
"aha, student becomes master. you may be the sarge, sarge, but i am chief inspector."
"i thought you were the sun." amaris says tilting her head to the side with a smile.
"i can be the cheif inveatigater and your sun, if thats what you want." ravi replies and pip rolls her eyes.
"hey guys, we're breaking in, remember?" pip asks pulling her backpack off her shoulder and pulling out two pairs of gloves, one bright yellow and rubber the other green and black gardening gloves. pip hand the gardening gloves to amaris and puts the rubber yellow gloves on.
"Wh– I don’t even want to ask," ravi laughs.
"I’m about to commit a crime, we don’t want to leave any fingerprints. There’s a pair in here for you too." pip holds up one palm and ravi places the key in it before bending down and grabing the third pair of gloves from pips bag.
"what are these?" ravi asks holding a pair of purple flower patterned glives.
"our mom’s gardening gloves. Look, I didn’t have long to plan this heist, ok?" pip says slightly annoyed.
"clearly." ravi mutters.
"they're the bigger pair just put them on." amaris tells him and he shakes his head before listening.
"real men wear floral when trespassing." ravi says as he slips the  gloves on.
"mhm," amaris hums in agreement, "they look good on you, sun." amaris says with a teasing smile.
"guys." pip says as she opens the bells door.
