amaris felt ravis body tense as they walked through the crowd, one of her hands was wrapped in his and the other was holding the material of pips hoodie so that they didn't get separated, but with every step they took through the crowd it was getting harder and harder. ravis hand began to sweat in hers, making her look back at that very second someone bumped into pip making amaris lose her grip on pips hoodie.
"shit." she curses, "I can't fucking see anything. can you find pip?"
ravi opens his mouth to respond but is cut off by naomi, "ravi, pip, mari!"
amaris spots naomi quickly and begins walking towards her, thankfully pip did the same, as amaris came to a stop infront of naomi she saw that with naomi was conners older brother, jamie, and nat de silvia.
a frown began to grow on her face, she knew nat had a deep resentment for pip and amaris, though she wished that everything with that would just go away.
"hi." ravi says to the trio across from him and the fitz-amobi twins.
"hi naomi, jamie. nat, hey," pips smile falters when nats gaze hardens on her. "sorry, i-i . . . just wanted to say i’m sorry you had to go through that, th-the trial yesterday, but you did amazingly."
"yea, i also want to say sorry but i totally get it if you don't want to hear that." amaris adds not stumbling over her words like her sister had.
"and i know this week and next must be awful for you, but we are going to get him. i know it. and if there’s anything i can do . . ." pip trailed off.
"okay." nat says sharply, amaris didn't blame her, she was sure nat didn't want to think about max and amaris had been in a similar, though less severe because he never got far enough to rape her, situation with elliot so she couldn't be mad a nat, she just couldn't.
"ok," pips voice was quiet and maybe amrais could be just a tad bit mad at nat but that was only because of how deafeted her sister sounded. "we’d better keep moving. see you later." pip says to naomi and jamie before the three move away and further through the crowd.
"yea she definitely still hates you two." ravi whispers to the two girls
"I know." pip said her voice still sounding defeated.
"who gives a fuck. let her hold her stupid grudge if she wants, I don't regret anything, we found the truth and that's what matters." amaris says.
"hey maybe we should make a list of people who hate you." ravi teases, letting go of her hand to wrap his arm around her waist.
"oh that reminds me, we need to swap custody over arlo and peso." arlo and peso where the two stuffys amaris had crocheted; peso was the original penguin she crocheted for ravi, they named him after the octonauts character, and arlo was a long neck dino that they named after the good dinosaurs main character. they swapped the two every week like divorced parents who had split custody.
"how the hell did that remind who of our children?" ravi asks with a smile, amaris shrugs, "alright then, moon, I'll be sure to drop peso off and pick up arlo later."
"thank you, meine liebe." amaris says standing on her tip toes to place a kiss on his nose, before smiling at the blush that had found it's way onto his face.
"hi." pip said to their group of friends, conner and cara were talking and ant and lauren looked to be on the verge of making out and zach was standing next to them awkwardly. a small, quiet chorus of 'heys' came back.
"i, um . . . i’m . . . how are you? sorry." cara stammered, looking up at Ravi nervously.
"it’s okay," ravi unwrapped his arm from amaris' waist to give cara a hug, "it really is, i promise."
"thank you." cara whispers as they pull apart, "I guess you were right mari."
"i don't fucking know why you'd think i was wrong, i mean he my boyfriend if anyone should know how he is it'd be me." amaris teases cara who shares a laugh with her.
"oh, look, it’s jason and dawn bell." lauren hisses, gesturing with her eyes to andie and beccas parents, "have you heard, apparently jason and dawn are back together. my mom says his second wife is divorcing him and apparently jason has moved back into that house with dawn."
"it’s so weird they still live there," ant says adding onto his girlfriend's words "eating dinner in the same room she died in."
"can you guys fucking leave them alone?" amaris snaps
"people deal with what they have to deal with, don’t think you can judge them by normal standards" cara adds. her and amaris effectively shifting ant and lauren up. though that only meant that an awkward silence fell onto them, conner tried to fill it as amaris played with her necklace as she glanced around.
"oh, Charlie, flora! hi, how are you?" amaris asks her eyes falling onto her new neighbors that had moved into zachs old house.
"hello, we're good thanks mari. you must be ravi," charlie says shaking ravis hand that seemed to be losing contact with amaris every few seconds, "we are both very sorry for your loss."
"it sounds like your brother was an amazing guy," flora adds.
"thank you. yeah, he was," ravi says, his hand falling to his side.
"oh, this is zach chen. he used to live in your house." pip says, and amaris was greatful that she had included zach who had seemed left out earlier.
"lovely to meet you, zach, we love the house so much. was yours the backp bedroom?" flora asks with a smile.
amaris didn't hear Zach response because Ravi had turned to her and whispered, "how many pieces of clothing have you stolen from me?" he tugged loosely on the green hoodie that she had on over her grey tank top.
"um, I don't know, I dont really count them." amaris shrugged looked up at ravi her smile bright, "but I do give some back when I take more."
"why do you even take them?"
"um I don't know I like that they smell like you but I'll stop if you want."
"no I don't mind, I was just curious."
amaris nods her eyes glancing around, she saw jamie and Conner talking in hushed whispers and then beside them Lauren and ant making out, her lips curl in disgust as she nudges ravi, "why the hell are they making out, right now?"
ravi shrugs not even glancing up at the other couple instead his eyes fixated on amaris, "who knows."
"if you ever try to make out with me in a crowd I'll kill you myself." amaris turns to him, before tilting her head noticing that he was just staring, "what?"
"nothing, love." he shakes his head and intertwined their hands, "we need to find my parents, though."
"right, okay, let's go." she nods grabbing pips arm and tugging on it while bidding goodbye to the rest of the group.
"there they are." ravi pointed out his parents, and pulled amaris towards them, as they got closer they passed stanley forbes taking a photo of the scenes around them.
"of course he’s here," pip mumbles once they were far enough away
"oh, leave him alone, sarge." ravi says nudging her from where he stood between her and amaris.
"no i agree with pip, he pisses me off."
"ofcourse he does." ravi mumbles with a shake of his head, "moon, everyone pissed you off."
"no, josh doesn't, or your parents, or cara, pip only mildly pissed me off, same with you. I really just don't like stanley."
"at least he said sorry," ravi mumbles, "look at all of them. their friends, neighbours. people who made their life hell. they’ve never apologized, just pretended like the last six years never even happened."
"that's because this whole damn town can't take accountability." amaris is cut off when her dad pulling the three of the into a big hug.
"doing ok?" he asks ravi, patting his back as he let go.
"doing ok," ravi nods, ruffling josh’s hair and smiling at leanne.
"urgh, you getting too big for this joshy." amaris groans as she picks josh up, "why can't you just stay a kid?"
josh shrugs with a smile, "I don't know, but I'll still be your little brother no matter how old I get."
"deal." amaris nods.
mohan walked over to the group, "i’m going in now to get a few things ready. i'll see you after." he says to ravi as he gives amaris a half hug, "look after mom." he adds, tapping ravi affectionately under his chin, before walking up the stairs.
"you got a hug and I got a tap, it's proof my parents love you more than me."
"that's because I bring them food sometimes when I skip school." amaris shrugs as they turn towards the stage while it starts.
ravi stood in between his mom and amaris holding both their hands, the first person to speak was the district councillor, his speech was long and rather boring to the ten year old that began to squirm in amaris' arms, amaris hushed him and gave him her phone after turning her volume down. Mrs Morgan was up next, she was now the school principal as the other was forced to resign by the school board, after her was andies best friends, chloe and emma as they were walking off stage someone bumbed into pip and amaris making josh drop her phone.
"shit." she curses, setting josh down and picking up her phone, frowning at the crack that was now in it, "alright no more phone, josh, just pay attention, mohans up next anyway." she told her brother as she slipped her phone into her head pocket before standing up and reconnecting her and ravis hands.
"everything okay?" ravi asks her and she nods smiling at him reassuringly.
when mohan walked up to the podium and cleared his throat she felt ravis grip on her hand tighten and she used her thumb to draw comforting circles on his hand.
"what can I tell you about my son, sal? i could tell you he was a straight-A student with a bright future ahead of him, but you probably already know that. I could tell you he was a loyal and caring friend who never wanted anyone to feel alone or unwanted, but you probably already know that too. I could tell you he was an incredible big brother and an amazing son who made us proud every day. I could share memories of him, as a grinning toddler who wanted to climb everything, to a teenager who loved early mornings and late nights. But instead, I will tell you just one thing about sal." he paused to look up at his wife and his youngest son and smile,
"if sal were here today, he’d never admit to this and would probably be thoroughly embarrassed, but his favourite movie of all time, from age three to eighteen, was babe." as the crowd laughed amaris looked up at ravi who was laughing as well, with tears in his eyes, "he loved that little pig. another reason he loved the film was because it contained his favourite song. the one that could make him smile and cry, the one that made him want to dance. so I’m going to share a little of sal and play that song for you now to celebrate his life, as we light and release the lanterns. but first, those words from sal’s favourite song, i say them to you now, my boy. if i had words to make a day for you, i’d sing you a morning golden and new. i would make this day last for all time. give you a night deep in moonshine." mohan paused and looked off to the right, nodding, "take it away."
amaris smiled as the high squeaky voice of a mouse came through the speakers, "and-a-one-and-a-two-and-a-three, hit it!"
the song began playing the mouse singing by himself until the chorus came and the mouse was joined by other mice, ravi was laughing and crying at the same time, and amaris didn't know wether to smile because he was laughing or frown because he was crying. people started to join in on singing and ravi looked down at his girlfriend who's head was rested on his shoulder, he mouthed the words to her and she laughed, the laugh wasn't loud but to ravi it was the only thing he heard, it completely replaced the sound of people clapping and singing, he smiled widely at her as she kissed his shoulder.

nisha had looked over when she felt her son let go of her hand, the sight she was met with brought an even bigger smile to her face, amaris' head was resting against ravis right shoulder as she looked up at him, their hands were intertwined and ravis hand that wasn't, was tucking a piece of hair behind amaris' ear as he smiled down at her with loving eyes. if nisha was being honest the reason why the sight brought a smile to her face was because it reminded her of herself and mohan how they were when they first started dating, nishas knew without out a sliver of a doubt that her son and his girlfriend were completely in love and she hoped that the two would last like her mohan. nisha departed from her son's side and walked over to her husband who was being handed a chinese lantern.

amaris let ravi go as he joined his mom and dad, he was handex a small box of matches. he struck one but the wind blew it away, when he tried again this time cupping his hand around the flame sheltering it, he held it under the lantern till the wick caught on fire.
ravi and his parents waited until the flame grew. amaris could tell that as they waited and let their tears fall silently that they were preparing themselves for what felt like a proper good bye to sal, the sal that they always knew he was, the sal that was a victim not a murderer. when they were finally ready the singhs let the lantern go watching as it floating higher and higher until it got lost in the stars where sal now was, watching over them and making sure theyre okay.
amaris looks away from the night sky and to ravis teary eyes, she offered him a small sad smile, he returns it and gestures with his head for her to come over. she shakes her head but he nods mouthing, 'get your ass over here mari'
'dont fucking call me that' she mouths back a disgusted look on her face that makes ravi chuckle as she walks towards him, when she gets close enough to him he pulls her into a hug, he places a kiss on her cheek and then pulling away from the hug but not taking a step away from her.
amaris uses the sleeves of her/his hoodie to wipe his tears before placing her hands on either side of his face, "you okay?"

"I am now, moon" he mumbles leaning into her touch.
