disclaimers: I don't own ggbb and I'm listening to the playlist I made for this book so you should to.

amaris was sure her heart dropped to her ass at conners words, her hands began sweating and her breath quickened.
"jamies missing?" pip was always better at overcoming whatever fears she had.
"yes." connor nodded staring at the sisters
"when? when did you last see him?" pip questions.
"at the memorial. i last saw him at the memorial, just before it started. he never came home."
amaris heard her sisters breath hitch, "i saw him there after that. maybe around eight, eight fifteen. he was walking through the crowd." that was around the the time someone had bumped into amaris making josh drop her phone, Jamie mustve been the person, "you’ve tried calling him?"
"yes, hundreds of times, it goes straight to voicemail like it’s off or . . . or it’s dead. me and mom spent hours calling anyone who might know where he is: friends, family. no one has seen him or heard from him. no one."
amaris leg began to bounce asdread filled her, "have you called around all the local hospitals to see if –’
"yes, we called them all. nothing." Conner cuts amaris off.
"ok your parents need to go to the police station and file a missing persons report. you’ll need –" pip began but was cut off.
"we already did, me and mom went down to the station a few hours ago, filed the report, gave them a recent photograph, all that. it was nat da silva’s brother, daniel, the officer who took the report."
"ok, good, so officers should be –" Conner cut pip off again
"no, no officers are doing anything. daniel said that because jamie is twenty-four, an adult, and has a history of leaving home without communicating with his family, that there is very little the police can do."
"what?"
"yeah, he gave us a reference number and just told us to keep calling Jamie’s phone and anyone he’s been known to stay with before. said that almost all missing people return within forty-eight hours, so we just have to wait."
"they must think he’s low risk. when a missing persons report is filed, the police determine a risk assessment based on factors like age, any medical issues, if the behaviour is out of character, things like that. then the police response depends on whether they think the case is low, medium or high risk."
"i know how it might look to them, that Jamie’s disappeared a couple times before and he always comes back –" it was pips turn to cut Conner off.
"the first time was after he dropped out of uni, wasn’t it?"
conner nods, "yeah, after he and my dad had a huge argument about it, he stayed with a friend for a week and wouldn’t answer any calls or texts. and it was two years ago when mom actually filed a report because jamie never returned from a night out in london. he’d lost his phone and wallet and couldn’t get home so just stayed on someone’s sofa for a couple of days. but . . .but something feels different this time. i think he’s in trouble, pip, i really do."
"why?"
"he’s been acting strange the last few weeks. distant, kind of jumpy. Short-tempered. and, you know jamie, he’s normally really chilled out. well, lazy, if you ask my dad. but recently, he’s seemed, at times, a little off."
amaris was a bundle of nerves in her seat because she finally realized why conner was here, even though it hadn't been brought up he wanted pip and amaris to investigate jamies disappearance, to find him. but all amaris could think about was that the last time they investigated something her sister ended up in the hospital she couldn't lose her sister, it would break her.
"and, i don’t think he’d run off again, not after how upset mom got last time. jamie wouldn’t do that to her again." Conner continues.
"i. . ."
"so me and mom were talking," oh no here it is. "if the police won’t investigate, won’t contact the media or anything, then what can we do ourselves, to find jamie? That’s what I wanted to talk to you guys about,"
amaris didn't want to see insensitive but she wanted to cut him off tell him no before he even asked because once he asked pip would say yes eventually and amaris was so terribly scared of losing her, and as selfish as it was she didn't want to do this, to help Conner, if it meant losing her sister.
"you guys  know how to do this; everything you two did last year where the police failed. you solved a murder. two of them. And yalls podcast, hundreds of thousands of followers; that’s probably more effective than any media connections the police have. if we want to find jamie, spread the word that he’s missing so people can come forward with any information they have, or sightings, you guys are our best hope of that."
"connor –" amaris' voice was shaky
"if you two investigate and release it on your show, i know we’ll find him. we’ll find him in time. we have to." Conner cut her off. Conner was one amaris' best friends she wanted to help him but she couldn't she just couldn't, last year was hell for pip and amaris' family and amaris never wanted to go through that again.
"im sorry, we can’t do it, connor." pip says slowly her voice quiet.
"i know it’s a lot to ask but –"
"it’s too much to ask, we don’t do that any more." pips voice was calm
"i know, but –"
"no conner you dont get it last time I almost lost everything: pip ended up in the hospital, we got out dog killed, put our family in danger, we blew up caras life, jt’s too much to ask. i want to help you, we both do but we cant... we can't do it anymore, it's not who we are." amaris' voice wobbled and shook with each breath.
"no, please . . . last time you didn’t even really know them, they were already gone. this is jamie, guys.  jamie. what if he’s hurt? what if he doesn’t make it? i don’t know what to do." tears began to fall down his face
"i’m sorry, connor, i am, but we have to say no."
"you guys aren’t going to help? at all?"
"i didn’t say that. as you can probably guess, I have a certain relationship with the local police now. I mean, I don’t think I’m their favourite person, but I probably have more sway in matters like this. i’ll go talk to DI hawkins right now, tell him about jamie and why you’re worried, see if I can get them to rethink their risk assessment so they actually investigate." pip says standing up and picking up her keys
conner stood aswell, "really? you’ll do that?"
"of course, i can’t promise anything, but hawkins is a good guy really. hopefully he sees sense."
"thank you," conner pulled her into a hug whispering words that were inaudible to amaris.
"it’s going to be ok I’ll give you a ride home on my way. come on." pip nods
conner stepped out the door first and amaris grabbed pips arm, "pip."
"hmm?"
"im gonna go to ravis, you'll be fine at the station?"
"yea, mari, go ahead." pip nods before huggijng her sister tightly and giving her an almost motherly kiss on the head.

"I love you pipsqueak." and amaris really meant it she didn't say it as often as she should but she really meant it, she loved her sister more that she loved pip with her whole heart.
