amaris sat on her bed drafting a letter to ravi, though she had no plans to actually give it to him, she had a whole box of letters she'd written to people but never had given. this letter wasnt going in that box, because ravi was differant. ravi was special to her and so she had differant, slightly smaller, box for him.
it already held a few dried flowers from the two bouquets that he had given her on their first date along with the watermelon with her watermelon lip gloss that ravi had said he liked. she had just tucked the letter safely in the box and put it back under her bed beside the other box, when ravi and pip walked in.
"ravi?" she questions, confused as she stands up.
"hi, moon." ravi smiles softly, making amaris's heart beat faster.
"um . . . i, i don’t understand why you’ve come back." pip says and amaris nods moving to stand next to her.
"i thought about it all night, literally
all night; it was light outside when I finally slept. and there’s only one
reason i can think of, only one thing that makes sense of this. because I
do know you guys. i wasn’t wrong about you." he says the last sentance to pip and then he looks at amaris, his eyes held too many emotions for her to place, "and i know you care, moon."
"i dont-" ravi cuts pip off
"someone took barney, didn’t they? someone threatened you two and they took your dog and killed him so you would stay quiet about sal and andie." amaris feels her chest tighten and her eyes fill with tears as pip nods.
"oh moon, dont cry." he says softly, takibg in her glossy eyes and quivering lip. he closes the distance between them and wraps his arms around her, "im here, mari, im here." he mumbles into her hair as she inhales a breath of his scent. and then suddenly her walls caved and she sobbed into his chest, clinging despretly to him. ravi held her tightly as she broke down.
pip watched as ravi kissed amaris's head lightly before mumbling reassurances to her as she cried. pip could only remember seeing her twin sister crying twice. pip didnt entirely know why amaris never cried infront of anyone but she knew that her sister had only broken the rule twice in the seven years since the day she made it and both times were in victor's arms. victor was the only person amaris had ever broken down infront of, that is until now. now ravi had seen her. pips eyes widened slightly with realization on how much ravi meant to amaris and how much she trusted him.
amaris had stopped crying now but ravi still held her close, and amaris still clung to him. ravis eyes meet pips asking a silent question, pip nods and mouths, 'im fine'.
ravi pulls away slightly and moves his hands to thr sides of her face, using his thumbs to wipe her tears. he leans forward and places a kiss on her forehead, the simple action made more tears escape her eyes and buries her head back into his chest. his hand rested on the back of her head holding her to him as he looked at pip.
"tell me what happened." pip didnt say anything to ravi she just unlocked her phone and clicked on the messages from unkown, she hands him the phone before mumbling,
"mari has ones like that too." her words make ravi tighten his grip on amaris, while he reads the texts.
"oh pip, mari, this is sick." ravi say softly
"they lied. we did everything we were supposed but the still killed him. why would they do that, ravi?" amaris asks, choking down a sob as she pulls away. ravi frowns and grabs a hold of her hand, offering some comfort.
"that wasn’t the first time they contacted you guys, the first text here is from the eighth of october." ravi says and amaris shakes her head moving over to her backpack, and pulling out the two crumpled notes.
"that wasnt the first time." pip says pulling out her own two notes, they both hand the notes to ravi, "that one was left in our sleeping bags when we camped in the woods with our friends on the first of september. i saw someone watching us. that one was in our lockers last friday. we ignored it and we carried on. that’s why barney’s dead. because of our arrogance. because we thought we were invincible and we're not. we
have to stop. yesterday . . . i’m sorry, i didn’t know how else to get you to stop, other than to make you hate us so you stayed away, away from danger. and mari just wanted you to be safe."
"im hard to get rid of, and this isnt over." ravi tells the girls
"yes it is." pip says taking the notes and putting them on her desk.
"it has to be. ravi, barneys dead. who's next? you? me? pip? the killer’s been
here, in our house, in our room. they read pips research and typed warning on our computers. in this house the same house that josh sleeps in, theres too many people at risk. i could lose you, your parents could lose you, the only son they have left." amaris's voice breaks as her mimd flashes with images of her family and ravi dead.
"the killer knows everything we know. they’ve beaten us and we have too much to lose. i’m sorry that it means we have to abandon sal. i’m so sorry." pip adds
"why didn’t you tell me about the threats?" the question was towards both of them but his eyes were fixated on amaris's.
"at first we thought it was a prank, but i knew that youd make us stop if you found out so pip and i agreed not yo tell you." amaris says chewing on her lip.
"and then we just got stuck, keeping it a secret. we thought they were just threats. i thought we could beat them. i was so stupid and now we’ve paid for my mistakes."
"our mistakes pip." amaris corrects, she was not about to let her sister take the blame for this when it was both of their faults.
"you’re not stupid; you were right all along about sal, he was innocent. we know that now but it’s not enough. he deserves everyone to know that he was good and kind until the end. my parents deserve that. nnd now we don’t even have the photo that proved it." ravi says sadly.
"we still have the photo, of course id never destoy it and even if i tried mari would never let me. but it cant help us now." pip hands him the photo
"why?"
"the killer is watching us, ravi. if we take that photo to the police and they don’t believe us, if they think we photoshopped it or something, then it’s too late. we would have played our final hand and it’s not strong enough. then what happens? josh gets taken? you do? mari does? people could die here." pip sits down on her bed.
"we cant do it, sun, i wish we could but we cant." amaris mumbles picking at her nail polish as she plops down next to pip.
"no, you’re right. and one of our main suspects is a policeman. it’s not the right move. even if the police did somehow believe us and reopen the case, it would take them a long time to find the actual killer that way. time we wouldn’t have." ravi says as he moves pips desk chair infront of where they were sitting and sits. "so I guess our only option is to find them ourselves."
"w can’t –" pip starts but is cut off by ravi.
"do you seriously think walking away is the best move here? how would you ever feel safe again in fairview, knowing the person that killed andie and sal and your dog is still out there? knowing they’re watching you? how could you live like that?"
"we have too." amaris says meeting ravis eyes.
"for such a clever person, you’re being a real plonker right now." he replies making her roll her eyes.
"im not the smart twin, ravi."
"they murdered our dog." pip says
"will stop saying that, moon. and pip, they murdered my brother. swhat are we going to do about it? are we going
to forget everything, curl up and hide? live our lives knowing a killer is out there watching us? or do we fight? do we find them and punish them for what they’ve done to us? put them behind bars so they can’t hurt anyone ever again?"
"they’ll know we haven’t stopped," pip mumbles
"no they won’t, not if we’re careful. no more talking to the people on your list, no more talking to anyone. the answer must be somewhere in everything we’ve learned. you’ll say you’ve given up your project. only we will know. if you need more persuasion i brought my laptop for you. it's yours until this is done." ravi says pulling his laptop out of his bed
"but--"
"its yours, pip." ravi cuts her off.
"what do i get." amaris asks playfully, tilting her head to the side slightly.
ravi meets her eyes with a smile, he licks his lips before speaking with a shrug, "me."
amaris's eyes widen and blush creeps onto her cheeks and the tips of her ears. ravis lips settle into a triumphant smile before he turns to pip, "you can use it to revise for your exam and to type up what you remember of your log, your interviews. I took some notes myself on there. I know you’ve lost all your research but –"
"i haven't lost my research."
"huh?"
"i always email everything to myself and mari, just in case, who do you think I am, some reckless ruth?"
"oh no, sarge, i know youre a cautious carol. so are you saying yes or should I have brought some bribery muffins too?" ravi asks jokingly
"come on then," pip says reaching for the laptop. "we have a double homicide to solve."
"what about you, moon?" ravi asks holing a hand out to her. she stares up at him as her lips slowly tugging into a smile, then she grabs his hand.

if he asked she'd do damn near anything.
