amaris was with ravi when pip texted them telling them they needed to talk urgently. so now she found herself staring at the ground her face pale as she and ravi take in everything pip told them.
"mr ward? it can’t be."
"it can, though, he doesn’t have an alibi for the night andie disappeared. I know he doesn’t. one of his daughters was at max’s house all night and the
other one was sleeping at mine. and he has no alibi for the tuesday when sal died, he called in sick to work that day; he told me himself."
"but sal loved mr ward."
"i know."
"so is he the secret older man andie was seeing? the one she was meeting at the ivy house?"
"maybe, andie spoke of ruining this person; Elliot was a teacher in a position of trust. He would have been in a lot of trouble if she told someone about them. criminal charges, jail time. andie called elliot an asshole to her friends in the days before she
went missing. elliot said it was because he found out Andie was a bully and contacted her father about the topless video. maybe that’s not what it was about."
"um i- uh, i need to tell you guys something." amariss voice was scratchy and uneven.
"what's wrong, mari?" pip asks taking in her sister seemingly bloodless face.
amaris gulps, "elliot um he---" she lets out a large breath, trying to figure out how she was going to say this-- "he um he made a pass at me two years ago. and- and last year and this year hes um- he's groped m-me." her eyes were glued to the ground beneath her seat so she didnt notice the shift in ravi and pip.
she didnt notice how ravis eyes glazed over with anger and protectiveness. she didnt notice ravis jaw ticking as he thought about someone doing that to amaris. she was his moon no one was allowed to touch her in a way she didnt want.
she didnt notice pips breath hitching in her throat. she didnt notice pips entire mood switch to anger. she was angry at elliot for doing such a thing to her sister. she was angry at amaris for not telling her. and she was angry at herself for not noticing.
"why didnt you say anything?" pip asks, guilt filling up inside of her for not noticing.
"i guess i thought no one would believe me. oh God im such an idiot. maybe if i had said something then barney would be alive. im so sorry pip, i- im so fucking sorry, it's all my fault." amaris had tears streaming down her face now.
pip shakes her head and stands up going to her sister and engulfing her in a hug, "no its not your fault, mari. dont think for a second its your fault, because it isnt. im sorry for not noticing and mari, please, if anything like that happens again, please know you can tell and I'll believe you. no matter what." pip mumbles, stroking her sisters hair lovingly as amaris basks in the warmth and love of pips embrace. the second pip pulled away from amaris, ravi pulled her into him amaris sighs contentedly and lets her head fall to rest on his chest.
no words were exchanged between them, but none were needed. the security and stability of ravis arms wrapped tightly around her said every thing that they needed to know.
after the hugs amaris excused herself, not wanting to talk about elliot or hear about anything to do with them. so instead she went to the living room and put on the first scream and curled up with a blanket and a bowl of her favorite candies -- that she had stolen from the variety of candies her parents had set up by the door for the trick or treaters.
ravis mind was half focussed on his and pips conversation while the other-- arguably more important-- half was focussed of amaris.
when the doorbell rang, pip jumped up and went to the door ravi following. pip was giving them candy when amaris stood up and went to the door to help aswell.
"she so pretty." a little boy mumbles as his eyes stay stuck on amaris.
"isn't she?" ravi asks
"are you her boyfriend?"
"no, not yet, kid."
"i would make her my girlfriend. im mean look at her."
"hey, now, you cant be stealing my girl."
the little boy giggles before running off and catching up to his friends. pip smiles to the adults that the kids were running too. but the adults' eyes darken as they cast judgemental looks at ravi. two of the woman began whispering to eachother and amaris's jaw tics, she half tempted to flip the off but pip slammed to the door closed before she could act on that thought.
"im gonna go study, you guys have fun." pip mumbles before practically running upstairs.
amaris turns to ravi, "do you wanna watch scream with me?"
"of course." ravi says grabbing her hand and pulling her to the living room, where they sat down, cuddled up together, before pressing play on scream. ravis arm was wrapped around her shoulders as she leaned into his side, sharing her beloved candies with him. despite all the sugar she consumed from the candy, amaris found herself asleep on ravis shoulder while her brought her closer and fixed the blanket that lay over her.
