Vic's pov

I checked the address Mei had sent me for something like the tenth time before ringing the doorbell. I'd been to her party exactly a year before with Ellie, but I honestly didn't really remember what the house looked like.

I missed Ellie quite a lot, spending the holidays without her being in town felt weird and kind of lonely. But I got why she wouldn't want to spend time there after what happened with her parents, and I was really happy she was going to England with Sam and meeting her family. Her girlfriend was giving her the kind of love I knew she always deserved, and I was incredibly glad to see how happy they both were together.

Being the extrovert I was, I never really minded being somewhere where I didn't know anyone, because that meant I'd just get to know more people. And I kind of did know Mei, anyway. Even if we'd only met three or four times before, through Ellie.

A girl who definitely wasn't Mei opened the door after a few seconds.

"You here for the party?" she asked.

"Uh, yeah" I just said.

The girl just nodded, gesturing towards the inside of the house as I walked in, and disappearing as quickly as she appeared.

For a moment I started to regret accepting the invitation, just because I was suddenly standing alone in a house with loud music and lots of people who all seemed to know each other. But I shook it all off within seconds, checking my reflection in the mirror I was right in front of , and adjusting my simple black dress before I stepped into the living room.

I both needed and deserved to have fun and not think of anything else, after having spent months being sad over a girl who wouldn't even have treated me well. In fact, I also wouldn't have minded getting some action with someone. I was actually starting to suspect I was kind of touch deprived, honestly.

"Hi, you" Mei's voice suddenly broke me out of my thoughts. I looked up and saw her with a faint smile on her face, her short hair perfectly parted in the middle and her multiple piercings making her look as attractive as I remembered.

"Mei! Hi" I got up, walking to her. "Thank you for inviting me here"

"Oh, no problem" she smiled. "I'm glad you came"

"I could never decline an invitation to a party" I shrugged.

"I like that spirit" she chuckled. "You want a drink?"

"Why not" I said as I followed her to the kitchen.

"So, how have you been? It's been a few months since we last saw each other" she said. After the previous year's new year party, we'd met a few times over the summer when Ellie had the whole mess with her parents going on, and that was pretty much it.

"I'm good. Very bored here without El, but good"

"I assume she's usually always here for the holidays?" she asked, pouring something out of a huge bottle into a plastic cup.

"Yeah, so not seeing her feels weird. But I perfectly get why she'd rather not come this year after everything that happened. Plus, she's living her perfect little love story"

"Right" she nodded, handing me the cup. "I'm so happy for her, she and Sam are both so in love with each other. And maybe a little jealous too"

"Same..." I mumbled, confused because as far as I knew Mei had a girlfriend. "Isn't your girlfriend here?"

"Oh, uhm, no...no. We, you know, we broke up. Like two months ago" she said, suddenly looking at the floor instead of me.

"Shit, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
