Vic's pov

Exactly one year ago, I was wondering if I'd just done a terrible thing by sleeping with Mei at her new year's party. Now I was on the verge of a mental breakdown because I was hoping she wasn't going to get scared and start ignoring me again, but that's what she seemed to be doing.

She told me we could speak during the holidays, but it was New Year's day and I hadn't heard from her, so I assumed she'd just decided she didn't want anything to do with me anymore.

I couldn't help but keep thinking how she'd probably had a party at her house like she did every year, and got drunk and probably made out with some girl and didn't think of me one single time, while I wasn't even able to shake the thought of her out of my head when I was celebrating with my own friends.

I'd considered texting her first, but she'd explicitly asked me to wait for her so it was up to her. I wasn't going to reach out if I wasn't sure she wanted me to. And I didn't want to seem so desperate.

But maybe thinking about it so intensely summoned her or something, because I unexpectedly received a text notification from her a few hours later. I was really resigned to the fact that she'd made her choice about me and was finally going to accept it. But the universe apparently had other plans.

mei: are you free tomorrow morning?
mei: we could meet for coffee

vic: i am, suree

I hated how happy seeing the text had made me, because how was I still such head over heels for her after months of basically no contact? And also, maybe she just wanted to see me to reject me in person and not through text. I couldn't keep my hopes high.

I really tried not to think about that as much as I could once I was getting my makeup done, right before heading out. But once I got off the bus and headed to the place she'd told me, which I would have perfectly remembered even if she hadn't sent me the address, because she'd told me it was her favorite in town and took me there multiple times during the summer, I couldn't help but feel nervous. I'd mentally prepared what to say in case of the worst case scenario, which seemed more likely to me with every second that passed, as much as I hoped that wasn't the case.

I immediately spotted her at what she'd defined as "her favorite table" as I walked in, and I couldn't help but let a light chuckle out at the thought of how pissed she'd always get whenever that specific spot wasn't free. She was wearing a denim jacket and loose fitting beige overalls under, looking as good as always.

"Hey" I said once I was close enough.

"Hi!" she said, a smile forming on her lips as she looked up at me. Maybe it wasn't going to go as badly as I imagined.

"Happy new year, by the way" I said as I sat down at the table, the coffee I'd just ordered in my hand.

"Same to you! Did you celebrate with your hometown friends?" she asked.

"I did, nothing too exciting...how was your party?"

"My party?" she asked, furrowing her brows.

"Yeah, don't you like, throw a party every year?"

"Oh, no, my parents weren't away this year" she said. "You thought I had a party and didn't invite you?"

"I...no, I just..." I mumbled, feeling more embarrassed than I had in a long time.

"I would have invited you, Vic" she said with a chuckle.

"You don't have to say that just to make me feel bet-"

"It's the truth" she cut me off. "Also, I've been...uhm, thinking" she said, getting straight to the point.

"Thinking?"
