Vic's pov
Going to New York had been a good idea, both the city and being with Ellie had put me in an incredibly good mood. Except from the occasional overthinking about whatever had happened with Mei that one evening.
But she told Ellie she was going to shut herself inside and force herself to study so she could catch up on all the stuff she'd missed, so we didn't even see each other after that. I couldn't even tell if I was glad about that or not.
Once I got back to Boston, I definitely had something else to think about, because I was going to have to tell Sam I'd be moving out the following day. Maybe telling her with just one day of warning hadn't been an amazing idea, but it was too late to think of that.
"Hey" I said as I walked into the room, not even expecting her to be in.
"Oh. Hi there" the brunette said as I placed my suitcase next to my bed. Despite everything, I really liked my side of the room. I'd managed to make myself feel at home through the way I'd decorated it. "Did you have a good spring break?"
"Uh, yeah" I just said, wishing she wouldn't act so friendly with me. She really was unpredictable.
"You went to New York to see your friend, right? The others told me"
"I did" I said, not even facing her. "You stayed here?"
"Yeah, it was a bit boring. But at least no class for five days, right?"
"Right" I mumbled as I sat on my bed. "Uhm, I need to tell you something" I added, clearing my throat.
"Should I be scared?" she raised a brow.
"No...I just, well, I'm...I'm moving out. Tomorrow"
"What???" she suddenly sat up on her bed. Definitely not the reaction I was expecting. "You're going to another university?"
"Oh, no. No, I'm moving out of this room" I tried to seem as calm as I could. But I was starting to panic.
"You...you are?"
"Yeah. Tomorrow" I nodded.
"Why?" she asked, which instinctively made me widen my eyes.
"Are you serious?"
"I am" she said. "I thought everything was good between us now. Was I wrong?"
"I mean...we barely even talk. Which is definitely not a sign of everything being good"
"Well, that's 'cause, you know, we have history"
"History?" I asked, trying not to laugh. "You mean we acted like a whole couple for ten months just for you to tell me you weren't looking for a relationship?"
"Don't put it like that..." she shook her head, suddenly looking embarrassed.
"That's exactly what happened, though" I said, a sarcastic smile on my face.
"We weren't acting like a couple and you kno-"
"You told me you couldn't imagine a life without me" I cut her off. "And that you couldn't wait for me to meet your family. And-"
"As a friend" she was quick to say, instantly making anger boil in me.
"Oh my fucking god" I said, trying my best not to raise my voice. "Do you seriously want to repeat this whole conversation after months?"
"You started it. But okay, yeah, we shouldn't" she sighed. "Are you still not over me? Is that what's going on?"
"Oh, I'm sure as hell over you. I regret wasting my time on you, if anything" I confidently said. "So, I'm sure it's not that absurd that I don't want to have to spend so much of my day in the same fucking room as you"
