Mei's pov
"I literally just ran into my high-school boyfriend. Ew" Vic said as she sat at our usual table at the cafè we'd been going to basically everyday.
"Hello to you too" I laughed, pecking her lips. "Is he the one who spread the weird false rumors about you?"
"Yup, him" she nodded. "As I said, ew"
"Indeed" I agreed. "Men suck"
"Yeah. Kinda. I mean, yeah" she said. "What? I unfortunately still tolerate some of them" she added, probably after seeing my disgusted expression.
"I feel bad for you" I chuckled.
"Look, I've had a few good experiences with m-"
"I do not need to know about that"
"Sorry" she laughed. "Look at you, all jealous"
"I'm not a jealous person" I immediately said.
"I think you are, babe" she giggled. "But that's okay, I find it hot"
"I'm not..." I shook my head with a laugh.
I was going to miss those lighthearted moments with her once I was back in New York. I wanted to tell her I'd officially made my decision to go back, but I knew she wasn't gonna take it well, so I was dreading it a little.
I would have gone close to insane if I stayed in my hometown for another whole year. It just wasn't for me. I needed people and chaos around me. But I also needed my girlfriend.
"Changing the subject" she said, clearing her throat. "Have you thought about next year? I mean, what to do and where to go"
"Yeah, I'm going back to New York" I said, ripping the bandaid off.
"I figured" she said. "I mean, I know how much you love it there. And living here is just not for you, I guess"
"It's just...yeah, I need the city, the energy" I said, reaching out to hold her hand. "But it doesn't mean I don't need you too"
"I know" she gave me a small smile. "It's just...gonna be hard, you know? Long distance and all"
"I know" I nodded. "But we'll be okay, right?"
"I hope so" she said with a sigh.
"We'll figure it out" I tried to reassure her. "New York isn't that far. We can still see each other a lot"
"Yeah," she smiled, a bit more genuinely.
I knew we'd be fine, we'd done long distance for five months and we'd both got used to it. But I also knew Vic well enough to notice she wasn't feeling too happy about it.
She was weirdly quiet the whole day, and she told me she'd have rather spent her evening alone that day, which was strange because we'd been spending all of our evenings together. I was okay with giving her the space she needed to process everything, but I also started to get kind of worried.
After dinner, I sent her a quick text just to make sure she was okay.
you: hey, just wanted to see how you're doing
you: i'm here if you need anythingI tried to distract myself with a book, but my mind kept thinking about Vic. I knew she needed space, but I couldn't help but worry.
vic: i'm okay, just needed some time to think. can we talk tomorrow?
you: of course
you: i love you smvic<3: love you too🤍
