Gin woke up early the next morning.
Her head hurt, and her throat felt rough. Crying always took a lot out of her. And she knew that it wasn't anywhere near close to being over. The man she had started to think was it for her, wasn't the man she had thought that he was. He was a liar, a cheat and she just couldn't handle even thinking about him right now.
Slowly she got up, and headed for her living room. She was shocked to find Priest sitting on her couch, with his head tipped back. She was shocked, but grateful that he was here. She didn't want anyone to see her like this but at the same time she didn't think that she wanted to be alone with her thoughts either.
Slowly she walked over and sat down next to him. His arm immediately wrapped around her shoulders.
"What a pair we are, huh?" he said without opening his eyes.
"Yeah," she said, close to tears. "Me a completely stupid fool, in love with a lie and you, a man too good to tell the person you love what happened."
"Yeah, but I'm just grateful that she is happy is all. You on the other hand aren't a stupid fool. You were taken in by a lie. A lie I should have told you about but was too wrapped up in my own drama to even take your feeling into account. Not happening again."
Gin looked at him sharply, "What do you mean?"
"I mean, I give up. Gonna go see her one last time, then I'm not gonna put myself through it any more. I'm already broken, so I cant break any more, but I don't think I can start to fix myself if I'm stuck in the past with my mind on someone who isn't coming back."
"Maybe if you just spoke to her, she might..."
"Nah, its done. Over. I know it, have known it since I walked into the hospital to see her. As much as I wanna fight for her, I cant take to pain any more. So I'm gonna focus on fixing you, while trying to move on."
"I don't think I'm gonna be fixed easily."
"Never thought you would be, sweetheart. Time is what you need. Time and knowing people are on your side." he paused for a moment as if deciding wither to say what he needed to say. "He came here." he eventually sighed.
"Oh." she didn't really want to think about it but at the same time she was happy that he even thought to come check on her. Maybe he did care a little for her after all. A hope that she was quick to squash. She didn't need to start thinking about such things. He still did what he did, and hadn't cared that he was doing it at all when he was balls deep in her so called friend. So she needed to stop thinking about him as someone who cares about anything to so with her.
"Yeah, he wanted to talk to you. To explain he said. Kept saying he neededt o make it right." she scoffed.
"He can never make it right, not now, maybe not ever." she felt like crying again, as she relived all of the things she had heard the night before.
"No, he cant. Argued with him about that again when he came. Told him that if he had any feeling at all he would leave you alone, let you come to him. Not that I think he deserves your forgiveness at all."
"No, I'm not sure he does either. He knew what he was doing would hurt me, especially after I told him what my ex had done. But he still did it anyway, still had his cake and ate it. No wonder he never seemed to care when I told him I wanted to go slow during the first month. Should have known I wasn't good enough for him."
"You're plenty good enough, sweet. And if he had a brain in his head he would have seen that and realized that you were good for him. Guess he'll get that memo now, huh?"
They were both silent for a moment.
"Maybe we should be a couple. I mean with me always seeming to fall for cheaters and you pining away for a lost love it would be safer."
