Evan sits in his car, gripping the steering wheel, thinking that he never thought he would be in this situation. When he returned and found out about Ava, all he wanted was to make sure that that little girl knew just how much he loved her and that he would always protect her. Never in a million years did he imagine that he would have to save her from kidnappers.
He looks up at the warehouse across the street and hopes that the information he got is right. He thinks back to that morning, when he searched the SGC for a certain Airman, after exhausting all of his contacts, sure that the man knew something.
Ever since the Airman's accusation, that something had been bothering him. Between all the little inconsistencies that had happened to him, that he foolishly wrote off as coincidences, and the Airman's accusation, he eventually realized that someone was actively trying to keep him away from both Lara and the SGC.
Evan searched the SGC top to bottom, eventually finding the Airman down at the motor pool. The man blanched when he saw him and tried to get away, but Evan cornered him by an elevator and after a few choice words, or threats is more accurate, he confessed that he had been paid handsomely to mess with Evan's life, Lara included.
It took everything in Evan not to bash the man's head in when he told him that he was also paid to take Ava. Evan remembers threatening him, telling him that he better tell him where his daughter was, otherwise he wouldn't live long enough to get court-martialed, something that Evan is sure is in his own future.
The Airman shakenly told him where to find Ava, but warned Evan that she was heavily guarded and that there was no way Evan alone would be able to get her out. He knew the Airman was right, as he made his way out of the Mountain and towards the warehouse, so he made a call to the only person he knew for sure would drop everything to help him save his daughter.
An SUV parks right behind Evan's car and he looks in his rear-view mirror, watching Jack and the rest of SG-1 climb out, Evan climbing out of his car as well.
-"You sure Ava's in there?" - Jack says in way of greeting.
-"As sure as I can be. But if she's not, then I know exactly where to find the person that told me she is."
-"Gear up." - Jack calls out to his team, before turning back to Evan. -"You're staying here."
-"With all due respect, Jack, I'm either going with you or by myself. Either way, I'm going."
-"Fine. Just try not to get shot. I don't feel like hearing an earful from Lara."
Jack shakes his head. As if dealing with one hardheaded Lara that morning wasn't enough, now he also has to deal with Evan's stubbornness. He can't really blame the man, after all this is his daughter, but seriously?
Evan smiles softly at him and nods, before pulling a TAC vest from the back seat of his car along with a P-90. He looks around while putting the vest on and knows that no matter what happens when they cross that door, Ava is going home today.
