-"What do you mean?"
Lara looks back at Elizabeth, confusion and fear spread across her face. Elizabeth has just told her that Evan is dead, but she is sure that Elizabeth is wrong. She has to be. Lara would've known if something like that had happened.
-"Even though the DNA was degraded, Jennifer told us that everything points to those bodies belonging to Evan and his team. I'm sorry, Lara."
Elizabeth reaches over to her and places something in her hand. Lara takes it and when she looks down to see what Elizabeth gave her, she sees Evan's dogtags, the soot from the fire having been wiped from his name.
-"No, no. You're wrong. It's not Evan. I want to see the body."
-"You don't want that, Lara. That shouldn't be your last memory of Evan." - Sheppard's voice wavers slightly as he tries to convince her.
-"I don't care." - There's anger in her voice. -"I want to see him."
-"You are well in your rights, as Evan's wife, to see his body, but do you think that that would be something he would want for you?"
Lara looks away from Elizabeth and back down to the dogtags still in her hand.
-"He's not dead. He can't be dead. I can't do this without him."
Tears begin to roll down Lara's cheeks and sobs escape her lips, her body starting to shake and rock back and forth. Teyla quickly pulls her into her arms, comforting her as best as she can, and signals everyone to leave her alone with Lara.
One by one, they all leave, Sheppard lingering behind a little longer than the rest, their hearts breaking, not only at the knowledge that they had lost Evan but, at seeing just how heartbroken Lara is.
Even the more cynical of them all is having a hard time keeping a straight face, leaving as soon as he is allowed, Lara's sobs following them all out the door and down the corridor. This is something McKay wishes he never has to experience again and he is damned if he isn't going to work to find a way that it doesn't happen again.
