Here We Go

The next morning, Lara walks through the corridors of the SGC, her daughter safely in her arms, headed for Jack's office, the little girl waving and smiling at everyone they pass through.

She spent the whole night tossing and turning, going through all that Jack told her and wondering what she will say to Evan when she sees him. Lara had been so certain that the man standing on her doorstep the day before wasn't Evan that she didn't even stop to consider that it might've actually been him.

Lara thinks that she was so cold towards him, that it actually surprised her when he agreed to talk to her, especially considering that she threatened to shoot him. However, it makes sense that he would agree. If he knows about Ava, then he knows that she would do whatever she needs to to keep their child safe.

Lara lets out a silent sigh, looking back at her smiling daughter, waving at a passing Marine and leaving the man a tad confused but waving back nonetheless, and wonders how is she going to explain this to her in a way that doesn't confuse nor scares her.

She reaches Jack's office and walks right in, Ava screeching with happiness when she sees her uncle, wiggling out of her mother's arms as fast as she can. Jack stands up just as Lara places Ava on the floor, the little girl running to him. He picks her up, kissing her cheek, before asking her if she wants to go see aunt Sam, Ava nodding enthusiastically.

Lara smiles at the duo, thinking that no matter how things end up between her and Evan, Ava has the right to know her father, just as much as Evan has the right to know his daughter.

Jack walks over to Lara, Ava secure in his arms, and kisses her cheek.

-"He's waiting for you in the guest quarters, room 305. We'll be in Daniel's office when you're done."

-"Thank you." - She kisses her daughter's head. -"Be good for uncle Jack and aunt Sam, okay?"

The little girl nods, making Lara smile, before Jack takes her down the corridor towards the only harmless place in the whole mountain, where Sam is waiting for them. Lara walks in the opposite direction, making her way to the guest quarters, her mind going a mile an hour, wondering how is this going to end for her and Evan.

She reaches the room Evan is in and stops in front of the door, taking a deep breath. Bracing herself for what's about to happen, she let's the breath out, before knocking. "Here we go."
