How Can He Think That?

Lara takes a seat on the couch, her brother's team sitting either across or right next to her, Jack directly across from her.

-"What is it?"

-"I lied earlier. When I said that Evan didn't say how he knew were Ava was, I lied."

-"Okay?"

-"Over the last few months, things have been happening to Evan that we both just dismissed as just coincidences or bad timing. The last one was when an Airman accused Evan of hitting him and landing him in the infirmary on a day where Evan wasn't even on the Mountain to begin with."

"Today, Evan went searching for that Airman and confronted him. That was when the Airman told him that the NID was involved and where to find Ava."

-"Okay. Well, that explains how he knew where Ava was, but where is he now? Why didn't he come back with you?" - Lara sees Jack exchanging looks with Sam.

-"Even though what happened wasn't his fault, Evan feels like he is a liability to you and Ava, and has decided to stay away from you both. He has already talked to Ava and explained to her that he was going away for a little while, and that he will see her again some day."

-"How can he think that? I mean, he was the one who found her. I know I told him this was his fault, but he has to know that I didn't mean it."

-"We tried to explain that to him, but he had already made his decision and nothing any of us could say was going to change his mind." - Sam's voice is calm and soothing, trying to keep Lara calm.

-"No. I need to see him. I need to talk to him and explain to him that this isn't on him. Where is he now?"

-"He went home to start packing. Tomorrow he will be tending his resignation and is moving back to San Francisco." - Jack looks at his hands, feeling bad that he couldn't dissuade Evan from his plans.

-"I can't let him leave without talking to him. Sam, are you okay with watching Ava while I go and talk to Evan?"

-"Of course. Jack will drive you." - Sam looks back at Jack, the man nodding in agreement.

-"Give me a minute, Jack, and I'll be ready to go."

Lara stands up and makes her way to Ava's room to let her know she will be right back.

-"You think they will be okay?" - Daniel asks Jack as soon as Lara is out of the room.

-"I sure hope so."
