Bella's POV

I stared wide eyed as I watched Alaska run up the stairs, taking them two at a time. It wasn't long before the slam of her room door was heard. My shoulders slumped and I fell back against my chair, unsure of how to react. Edward instinctively placed his arm around me and pulled me towards him, rubbing my arm continuously.

Alec had his gaze fixed on Edward and I as he threw us an apologetic look before bolting up the stairs after his sister. I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath, trying to figure out what just happened.

"Bella, look at me." Edward ordered but I refused to budge. "She didn't mean what she said, you know how her temper is like."

"She has never had an outburst like this before." I finally opened my eyes and turned my attention to Edward. "It's my fault. I am a bad Mum, aren't I?" I felt my eyes starting to well up and a lump formed in my throat. "She deserves to hate me."

"Don't be silly." Edward scolded as he pulled me to his chest. "She didn't know what she was saying. You are an amazing mother, Bella. Don't ever think otherwise. I'll have a talk with Alaska later on and make her come and apologize to you."

"Don't." I whispered. "Let her cool off first." Edward didn't say anything but continued to stroke my back as I leaned into his chest, breathing in his cologne. I didn't know if it was Edward's cologne or he himself being there with me, but I realized I had calmed down a little.

Just then we heard some footsteps coming down the stairs and my head snapped up immediately.

"Alec." I breathed out.

"Mum, I'm really sorry about what Alaska did. She didn't mean it." My son began and I gave him a small nod.

"You don't have-"

"No mum, I'm serious." Alec raised his voice a little as he interrupted me. "I love Al but this time, she did cross the line. You guys are the best parents around. Al knows that, she loves y'all a lot but tonight, I guess she lost it." Alec came forward and stood next to me. "She needs some space to herself tonight but I assure you that she will come around tomorrow."

"She has to see that we are trying to protect her from anyone who's a potential harm." Edward spoke up from beside me. His arm was still around me and he gave my shoulders a light squeeze as he said that.

"I understand." Alec nodded. "But you don't have to worry so much. Don and I are around her almost every second of the day in school. Heather has known Al since elementary school too. We won't let anything happen to her." He promised. "Plus, I don't think anyone would dare to touch a Cullen."

I smiled and looked back at Edward. "I guess we should relax on her a little."

"That still doesn't make her behavior acceptable." Edward said sternly.

"Give her a night to sleep it off." I urged.

"Alaska didn't mean it, I promise." Alec assured. "I'll be with her for the night and slowly talk to her."

Edward glanced at me before looking up at Alec again. "Fine. But tell her that if she dares to talk to her mother like that again-"

"Edward." I stopped him halfway. "Let her calm down first." I patted Edward's hands as I looked back at Alec. "Go be with her, she probably needs you there."

Alec leaned in to kiss me on the cheek before nodding and running up the stairs again. I sighed before looking back at Edward. "Shall we get some rest?"
