"Mrs Smith! Daryl has got my toy! Please get him to give it back to me!" A girl with blonde hair squealed. She was no more than 5 years old and she was adamantly stomping her foot on the ground as she fiercely pointed to another young boy.
I chuckled softly as I watched her from the bench I was sitting at. Edward and I had finally returned to the adoption centre after three months of waiting. Thankfully, we had been successfully registered to the agency a few days after our previous visit, so that meant that the only thing we could do was to wait till someone wanted us to adopt their kid.
Today, Jennifer had called us and asked us to meet because she had an important issue to discuss. Edward and I had taken a day off work and got here as soon as we could. Right now, I was watching some of the kids playing at the small playground built at the back of the adoption centre while Edward was inside, talking to Jennifer.
"Bella?" Edward voice disrupted my thoughts. My eyes snapped up and he was coming towards me with a huge grin.
"Yeah?" I got up and straightened my jeans.
"Jennifer said that there is a baby for us!" Edward didn't bother hiding the excitement in him as he pulled me into a hug instantly.
"Really?!" I exclaimed into his ear.
"Yeah! There's a lady living in Ohio who just delivered her baby. He or she-" Edward chuckled. "Should be coming over tomorrow! The baby is coming over tomorrow!"
"Oh my god." I could feel my eyes welling up. "She chose us?"
"Yes she did." Edward whispered, leaning forward to rest his forehead against mine. "She chose us."
I bit my lip to stop myself from smiling like a crackhead but I couldn't help it. We were finally getting what we wanted all these time. We were finally getting a baby!
"Jennifer needs us to finish some paperwork and once the baby comes tomorrow, we can officially become parents." Edward stated.
I looked up at him, speechless. Parents. We were becoming parents.
I didn't say a word as I went up on my toes to kiss Edward. I didn't know if it was the pleasure of the good news I just heard or the fact that I was going to become a mother, but whatever it was, the kiss with Edward felt a hundred times better than it ever did. My heart felt like it was going to explode against my chest and my stomach didn't stop the butterflies from fluttering insanely.
Now, I really couldn't wait for the day to end.
That would explain why I didn't sleep a wink at all the whole night. When Edward and I got home, we immediately went into baby mode. Yes, there is such a thing.
I had already read all the baby books that I had borrowed from Rosalie but I went over them again, just to make sure that I had every fact and detail drilled into my head. Edward started to baby proof the house and even started to place a cot and baby monitors in the baby room. We had specially kept a room empty for the baby once we decided to adopt and for the past three months, it was empty with no life.
But now, there was going to be life in there. Edward had gone into this frenzy mode where he decided to paint the whole baby room in a day itself. Thankfully, his sane wife - aka me - stopped him and told him to keep that for another day. The baby blue color that was originally the color of the room seemed nice. We didn't wish to stereotype the baby even before we knew its gender.
Finally, after a brutal 26 hours, Edward and I were back at the adoption centre. Words couldn't describe how excited we were. Jennifer had explained to us all the basics we needed to know about baby care and I was proud to say that I knew all of them, thanks to the baby books.
