THE SOUND OF panting and heaving breathing filled the air as the group continued their trek to the lake. It felt like they had been walking for a lifetime, the aching in their legs after each step only making it seem like they'd never reach their destination.

They all took turns in carrying Coach Scott on the makeshift stretcher, swapping out in groups of fours after a certain amount of time. The terrain certainly made it harder and most definitely slowed them down. But it was worth it at the end of the day.

Because leaving him back there wouldn't have been right. At all.

Violet's hand gripped onto the strap of her backpack that hung off her shoulder, her injured arm freely swaying by her side as it was still too tender to hold the weight of anything else.

I guess that was the one good thing about her injuries. She didn't have the trouble of carrying Coach Scott.

She did try, not wanting to feel useless. But it almost amounted in her dropping the poor guy completely. So it was decided by the group that Violet should just stick to walking.

Violet was currently walking next to Shauna, the two girls sharing a comfortable silence. The pair of them were each too caught up with their own paranoid thoughts, having both gone against their best friends in the vote.

Although the terrain was unforgiving, Violet was too busy with staring at the back of Lottie's head to bother looking at the ground as she walked. Just as Shauna was with Jackie.

The Matthews girl was walking ahead, it now being her turn to carry the stretcher.

She hadn't said much since the vote occurred, only offering a small reply to questions she was asked when the group were figuring out who was taking what along with them.

She didn't even talk to Violet properly. I mean shit, it's not like there was much chance to anyway considering Lottie was keeping her distance.

Violet didn't know if she was upset with her for choosing to agree with Taissa, or whether whatever had happened earlier affected her so much it caused her to go silent.
