After Science, the day passed pretty slow, but I had Braedon with me, which is all that mattered. Soon, it was the end of the day. Finally… Today was crazy… At least I made new friends so quickly… I thought to myself as I walked to my locker. I can't wait to go home and see my beautiful Lorelei. I hummed to myself as I packed up my things. Just then, I felt someone jump onto my back, and I sighed.

“Brae, off. Please.” He whined.

“Noooo!”

“Yes. Don’t make me ask you again.” He huffed before reluctantly getting off. “You got everything?” I asked as I got my backpack out of my locker.

“Mhm!”

“Jacket? Backpack? Books?” I asked.
“Rory, it’s like 60° outside, I don't need a jacket. But I have my backpack and textbooks.” I froze and I just stared at him. “What..? Did I do something wrong?” He asked in a whisper.

“You… know my name… How…?”

“Mrs. Wiltzius said it in Science. Remember?”

“I do remember, though I was hoping you wouldn't…”

“Why not? Rory’s a cute name.” My face flushed.

“Well, I guess I just didn't want you to give me weird nicknames like my old friends did…” He hugged me, and my eyes widened. I… I’ve never been hugged by someone else besides Lori… This is nice… I buried my face into his hair and we just stood there for a while, until he pulled away.

“We should get going.” I sighed, wanting the moment to last longer, but I nodded.
“You're right, we should.” I closed my locker and we started walking to the front of the building.

“So, how close do you live from here?” He asked as we walked down the sidewalk
“About 20 minutes I think. What about you?”

“20 minutes!? Why don’t your parents sign you up for the bus!?” He exclaimed.
“It’s… well, it’s a long story…” I mumbled, thinking back to my parents. My mom is never home until the dead of night, and even then, she would be too drunk to do anything. And my dad, well… he’s always locked in his room…

“Oh, okay.” He didn’t pry much after, and we just walked in silence.

“So… you live close?” I asked after a while.
“Yeah, I live about 5 minutes away,” Braedon responded.

“Cool.” We went silent after that again, until we reached his house.

“Welp, I guess this is it.” I nodded.
“Yeah, I suppose. See you tomorrow then?”

“Mhm.” He started to walk up the driveway to the front door and I watched. “Bye, Rory!” He called and waved before closing the door behind him. I watched for a moment before sighing. Oh, I really don't want to go home… but I must…
