Hopeless - A Powerless Fanfiction

As I was leaving finally going to bed, I heard loud noises coming from outside, it sounded like imperial guards shouting, was there an intruder? I decided to go and check on the guards outside, to make sure there were no problems or issues.

What I found shocked me, although I don't know why anything she does surprises me anymore. Two elite guards on the floor, dead, with the figure of a woman towering above them. Paedyn. My pretty Pae. She'd made an attempt to escape it seems. Although her leg looks injured and although its dark, I can see her arm has been burnt too, by a blazer I assume, most probably one of the dead guards.

"Gray is that you?". As soon as the words leave my mouth, she's facing me, with a knife to my throat. I smiled lazily at her, the number of times this woman has put a knife to my throat is too many to count now, but more concerningly I never get tired of it.

"You know darling, I'm starting to think you putting a knife to my throat is just an excuse to get close to me now" I drawl the words out, angling my face downward to get a better look of her face, while ignoring the sting of a blade at my throat, and the blood starting to trickle down.

At that Paedyn releases me, while muttering something under her breath and rolling her eyes.

"What was that darling? Hm?" I ask, my voice coming out deeper and huskier than intended. I take a step closer to her, in an attempt to close the distance between us. I take her chin in my rough calloused hands and angle her face towards mine, so our noses are practically brushing.

She raises an eyebrow in response and whispers close to my ear "You cocky bastard, I could've killed you." 

"Oh darling, your concern for my wellbeing is truly heart-warming, but both you and I know it'd take more than that to get rid of me". I whisper back to her with a wink, as my hands find her waist.

Our eyes lock together, I can see the desire and lust in those ocean blue eyes of her, it likely mirrors that of my own eyes. I feel like I'm drowning in her, every time I look into those eyes. I'm dying for breath every damn time I see her, and finally after what seems like an eternity our mouths collide with each other. If I am a man dying for breath, then she is my oxygen. I breathe her in, never getting enough, as my hands tighten around her waist. Her grip loosens on the knife, and it falls to ground, while her hands find themselves wrapping around my neck. Her legs somehow find their way around my hips, and I push her against one of the palace walls.

If only we could stay like this forever. Just me and her. No titles. No history. No pretending. I'm not the King's enforcer, she's not an ordinary. We're just Kai and Paedyn. Two lovers, made perfectly for each other.

She breaks away from the kiss first, "Kai I-"she stops midway through her sentence looking at her hands, and the blood dripping off of them, then she looks back at me, her eyes pleading for forgiveness, not from me, but from the lives she took.

Once again, my fingers find her chin, and angle her face towards mine, so ours meet each other. "Pae, look at me, it wasn't your fault". I gesture towards the two corpses, "There wasn't anything you could do, God, I wish...I really wish I could've done that for you." I smile sadly at her then whisper, "After all, as a monster, my soul is already stained enough for the both of us".

She looks like she's about to argue, but I don't let her, I don't deserve her attention, I don't deserve her concern, I don't deserve her beautiful smile which could rival that of the stars. I don't deserve her, and when she realizes that, that is when she will truly be my undoing. 

I put a finger over her mouth and shake my head," They're going to realize you're gone soon, so here's what's going to happen, you're going to find a way to get to Izram, and I'm going to stay back here and buy you time, so you can get to Izram safe and sound, like we originally planned".

She glares at me like I've gone mad. "No, Kai, I can't live without you, they'll find out, they'll kill you, Malakai Azer, look at me, I'm not leaving, not without you. Never". 

At this I smile sadly, her stubbornness might just be what gets us both killed. "Oh darling, I love the way my name rolls off of your tongue, but if you think that'll change my mind, you better think again, please Pae, I'm begging you from the depths of my heart, run, living without you is only bearable if I know your still alive." 

"But-" she's interrupted by the shouts of guards nearby. That was much quicker than either of expected, they can't possibly know she's escaped already. I push Paedyn away from me, and mouth a single word to her, 'go'.

To my relief, she listens to me this time, she runs as fast as her injured leg lets her, not looking back.
