Seeing the way his face changed at the mention of her. At the mention of Adena. I realized he was genuine, it's a gut feeling. A feeling I can trust. He's genuinely trying to help me out. I don't trust him, but I do trust Adena, and if she felt that she could trust him, I suppose I can too.

Makoto and I have been evading imperial guards across nearly every alley we walked through. They've already got a search team out for me; I was hoping they'd have started with the scorches. But then of course they wouldn't... Kai had promised me he would give me as much time as possible, and he wasn't expecting me to be here. I shouldn't have been so stupid; I should've gone straight to the scorches. I should've. I should've. I shou-

I crash right into Makoto's back. He'd come to a sudden stop; I had been too busy in my head that I hadn't noticed him halt. "What is it?" I hiss, annoyed that we had slowed down. I didn't want to be outside and vulnerable any longer than I had to be.

"Guards... a lot of them, by my count around ten. I don't thi- crap".

"What?" I ask, but he doesn't respond "Makoto, what happened?" I ask again, this time shaking his shoulder.

"The enforcer. He's here."

My eyes widen at his statement. Kai is here. I can't help but try to get a peek at him. I step on my tippy toes and look over Makoto's shoulder, and there he was. Kai. No, not kai. This was the enforcer, one of his many masks. His inky black hair blew with the breeze, covering his stormy gray eyes from my sight. His face didn't show any kind of emotions. Well not to most people, but I'm not most people. I could see him fidgeting with his hands, he was nervous. I really wanted to run to him, feel his warm embrace, to cry on him. But I couldn't do that...not now, maybe not ever.

"Paedyn?" Makoto's voice stirs me out of my thoughts once again. "We've got to go, and now, or they'll find us".  I nod in agreement with him, then take one last glimpse of Kai, before running into the darkness of Loot's alleys.

"How long left?" I ask annoyed at the amount of time it's taking to reach our destination.

"Not much longer, the problem is all these imperial guards. It's hard to tell who's who, since they're dressed as mundanes. The only reason I know is because..." He paused, not bothering to continue his sentence. I assume he worked it out by looking at their behavior compared to the mundanes. They seemed more confident, with their backs straight, their chins high in the air and their eyes not wavering at all. That's how I worked it out anyway, but he wasn't telling me something, and I knew it. There was more to this Makoto guy than he was letting on. I didn't need to be a psychic to work that out.

"Shit-" he suddenly shouted aloud, causing me to startle into a fighting stance by instinct. "I think one of them is approaching us... just keep that blanket wrapped around your head, and whatever you do, don't run unless I give you a signal to do so" I don't have time to reply, so instead I nod, and do as he say.

The imperial approached us within mere seconds and asked us "Have either of you seen or heard anything about the silver savior?" he first looked Makoto in the eye, then turned his attention towards me, raising a skeptical eye at the blanket on my head.

"We haven't heard much about the she-devil since she was captured by the king. All the other rumors about her have died down. Last I heard she was to be executed." The words which escape Makoto's mouth stung. 'She-devil' really? Is that how people saw me? Even the people of Loot? It hurt. I was trying to help them. I was trying to give them a better place to live in. A better kingdom. But they only see me as a traitor. That's all I'll ever be.

A nudge to my shoulder reawakened me to the real world and stopped my train of thought. "And you miss? You haven't by any chance heard anything have you?" The imperial was beginning to get more suspicious of me, I still hadn't responded to his question. What was I supposed to say? What was his question? Oh god, what if he realized I was her. The one he was looking for. The silver savior.

"Miss?"

"Oh...no I haven't heard a thing about her. Last I heard she was to be married to the King".

The imperials eyes widened, then his mouth formed a crooked smirk. "Found you, Silver Savior"

Crap, I'd said the wrong thing. No one in the Kingdom knew about the marriage. No one at all. Only the people within the castle walls. Oh no. Oh no. Oh no.
