It has been six hours since I last saw her. It has been six hours since I last kissed her. It has been six hours since they realized she disappeared.
I have been pointing my men in the wrong direction for six damn hours. I have had to stay with them for all six hours, tracking Paedyn down will be much harder than I thought. Wherever I go at least five imperials follow my path.
I've slipped on my mask, I am no longer Kai, I am no longer with her, I am no longer myself. I am the enforcer of Ilya, meant to serve only one man, Kitt, my br- no... my King. As the enforcer duty overrules desire, I must seem like I want her found, caught and dragged back to Ilya, where she will be stuck as Kitt's bride in an invisible cage made by the king. I must pretend to want that. Pretend. I smiled sadly as I thought about that damn word. The word me and Paedyn always used to pretend our love was okay; to pretend we were in love. But that wasn't pretend, was it?
I shake my head in annoyance, I can't be thinking about the past... not right now, I couldn't afford to dwell in the past. I had to be here. In the present, if not for me, then for her, for the love of my life. For my pretty Pae.
"S-sir is everything okay?" I snap my head towards the gruff voice of one of my soldiers, staring him down with a glare. Had I let my mask slip? How did my face look?
Although thoughts whirled around in my head like a storm, I remained composed, I couldn't give any of my thoughts away... I couldn't afford to. "Yes... why do you ask Mr... Calore?" I vaguely remembered the man, he was one of the guards who had been shouting last night, he had been one of the men who had interrupted my moment with Paedyn. I immediately took a dislike towards him.
He remained silent, noticing the hint of a threat in my voice. That was wise of him, considering I wasn't in a good mood at the moment. I made my men march towards Loot, Paedyn wasn't stupid enough to set foot there again, but these men didn't know that. My perfectly crafted lie made them think she would be here; I mean it wasn't hard to believe... after all she had lived here her whole life. It seemed like the best place to start searching, if one forgot all about the scorches and the other kingdoms.
At such a short notice, we couldn't empty the streets of Loot, I was glad of that, but my mask showed a hint of irritation and annoyance at the inconvenience for my men to find her. I had all of them disguise themselves, so none of the people of Loot get alarmed at the sight of them. I then racked my head to think of a place these guards might believe she'd run to. I couldn't think of anywhere except the place where we burnt her home down, but that was already gone. Already destroyed. She couldn't go there, and everyone knew that, even the slummers in Loot probably knew that by now. My guards couldn't be fooled so easily.
So instead, I say the vaguest thing I can think of putting as much assertiveness and authority in voice to mask the thoughtlessness of my words "Search all the alleys of Loot, thieves are good at hiding in the shadows, I want every slum alley searched. I want every single corner of Loot searched at least five times. I want the silver savior dragged out of Loot." The words come out of my mouth cold and icy, with an untold threat hidden underneath if they didn't find her. Pretend. It's just pretend. The soldiers are still looking at me, as if waiting for a confirmation of my orders.
"Well? What are you waiting for then? Make yourself useful. Or do I have to do every damn thing myself?"
At the sound of my voice, they all scatter in different directions in search of her. The silver savior. The girl of my dreams. The love of my life.
Kitt's bride.
