Hopeless - A Powerless Fanfiction

My vision was blurry, I was barely conscious, all I could see was two blurry figures that I assumed to be Kai and Paedyn. It looks like Kai managed to subdue Paedyn and was trying to reason with her.

I could barely get up, my legs were shaking, and I was hella tired from all of the walking in this godamn desert. The sand wasn't helping in any way; my eyes, my mouth, my ears - everything was blocked with sand. Sand. Sand. Sand. Why am I even here? Both of these idiots are wanted for treason, and even worse, they were hopelessly in love and kept denying it as if their lives depended on it. It was sooo obvious how stupid they are? 

Adena. Adena. Adena. 

That's why I'm here, to keep my promise to her. To keep the last piece of her left in this world safe. To keep Paedyn safe. 

I could hear their voices getting louder. Ugh, probably arguing again. Probably about their fucking trust issues, and Kitt as usual. Just makeout and apologise, already. 

As I get nearer to them, I start to hear what it is they're saying. 

Oh boy, I was right.

"You want me to choose between the two of you, hm?" The words come from Kai. I can hear the tremble in his voice; he's clearly surprised and panicked. Why? I don't know. You would think he would have been expecting this scenario to happen eventually, wouldn't you? I mean, I sure as hell expected it. 

Pretty sure I already know his answer anyway, it'll be Paedyn. It's always Paedyn. Why wouldn't it be her? He committed treason for her. He betrayed his brother for her. And for godsake he's made out with her for only god knows how many times. 

What even is the point of this question? Confirmation? Validation? You'd have to be blind not to realise how love-sick this guy is. 

"Yes, that's exactly what I want you to do, Azer"

Why was he taking so long to come up with an answer?  

"I choose duty, I choose him, I choose my brother. Over everyone. Over anyone."

What the Hell? This is ridiculous. This is a clear lie - or so I hope. I cannot take any more of this bullshit from either of them. 

Why is he so bipolar?? It wasn't that long ago that both of them were being so lovey-dovey. 

There's nothing you can do to change that, bu-"

I don't bother letting him finish; he clearly didn't have anything useful to say. I give a good bash to his skull, effectively knocking him out. 

Paedyn looks up at me wide-eyed, as Kai's unconscious body slumped against her; she clearly hadn't noticed me creep up behind them. "Wha-"

"You guys have some serious issues that need to be solved ASAP, if we want to get anywhere with overthrowing Kitt."
