Has he gone mad? He thinks I'm going to leave him alone with her for five minutes and trust them to not get into a vicious fight or start making out again for the millionth time. No way in Hell. I'm about to refuse his request, but when I look back up at him, I see something in his eyes. Something that tells me that he needs this. He needs to tell her something. He needs a moment in private with her. He needs a heart-to-heart conversation with her about everything. Although I'm tempted to refuse it, I reckon they need this as much as they both don't want it. They need to know how each of them feels. They need to know they feel the same way. They need to know this isn't as simple as reading a picture book designed for toddlers.
So, I let them. I give them the space that they need.
"Five minutes. Nothing more, okay?" I mutter the words which lie on unhearing ears. I don't bother repeating myself. They already know they only have five minutes to wrap this up. I just hope they spend it wisely.
I take long strides, exiting the room, I decide that I should make the most of my time, while they try and sort things out, and decide to patrol the area around my home. I put on one of the sweaters Adena had made me with a hood, to cover my face from any Imperials around the area.
Adena.
I can't help but think about her for the majority of the time. The only things that occupy my thoughts now a days are her and Hera, my cousin who died a similar fate to Adena in the trials, it hurts less now though. I've had time to grieve over them, but I doubt the pain will ever leave me forever. I'm scarred for life, the only two people in this entire world... killed... dead... gone. It's almost as if the whole universe is conspiring against me. I look up at the sun and whisper to her, to Adena "Please...please give me a sign. I don't know what to do. I don't know anything. I feel so helpless, here without you. Please come back to me"
I know it's useless, but it doesn't help me from feeling like it's worth my time.
"Oi, you over there, have you seen the enforcer around here at all, by any chance?" A voice snaps me back to reality, I turn around to find the owner of the low gruff voice and come to find myself face-to-face with an imperial guard. He didn't look like one, but it was obvious from the way he stood taller and straighter than the rest of the people here, and I could sense his powers, which seemed to be stronger than the majority of the mundanes here.
I panic, but only for a second, before I finally shake my head and respond, adding as much disgust in my voice as possible, "No, haven't seen the damn traitor anywhere, if I find him, he'll be good as dead though." The imperial smiles in response, but only for a moment, after that a crease forms on his forehead, his eyes squint as if he finds me familiar, and a frown appears on his head.
"How do you know about that? News doesn't get around that fast here, especially considering that's been kept as much of a secret as possible. A commoner like you couldn't possibly know unless... "
My first connects with his face, before he completes his sentence, giving myself a few seconds head-start. I sprint as fast as my legs allow me, trying to maneuver my way out of the imperials sight. Left. Right. Left. Paedyn and Kai are going to kill me. Right. Left. Another right. Jump.
I look behind myself to see if he's still on my tail, and to my annoyance and shock, not only is he still right behind me and chasing me, but so are around five other imperials. I'm getting tired I can't keep this up much longer.
I try to form a plan in my head. I don't have any way of blending in with any of the people in Loot, and even if I did, I reckon I'd be found within a few minutes, considering that there's probably a price over my head already, and I'm not as good as blending in with crowds as Paedyn is. I could run back to my house, regroup with Paedyn and Kai, but I'd risk revealing our location. To be fair though, they're bound to find the area within a few days, I'm not really losing anything of importance, and the biggest risk is not taking the risk at all, isn't it?
So that's what I do. I run. I run. I run, willing my legs to go faster, hoping I either out-maneuver or outrun the imperials before I reach my destination.
