The fort. This horrid looking place in a slum alley of Loot. This is where I go every day, every single day at dawn, I awake and make my way here. Ever since the last trial, ever since her... Adena's death, I've come here. Before, I used to hate this place and despite it with all of my soul. But ever since she died... I've found myself become more and more attached to the fort. It's become a peaceful haven of sorts. A place where I can relax and calm myself. A place where I can be left alone to drift into my thoughts, into a world that doesn't exist... into a world with her.
As I walked towards the fort, I could feel a slim box in my pocket pressing against my thigh. I always kept it with me, I refused to keep it any further than an arms distance from me. It was one of the only things I had left to remind me of her. Adena. The sunshine to my rain. The happiness to my grumpiness. The girl of my dreams. The only other thing I had left of her were the vests she had stitched for me.
Although she had never opened the box, it still reminded me of her. I didn't have to open the box to know what was in there. I had spent weeks staring at the contents of the box after the final day of the purging trials. Inside the box lies a needle, a needle I had memorized the look of, a needle I had hoped to gift to Adena on the day of her death, the needle which she never got to lay her gorgeous hands on. The silver of the needle would gleam in the sunlight had I taken it out once again to look at, even in the dull light of dawn. There are intricate, half-moon designs carved along the length of the needle.
She would've loved it, I still try to imagine what she would've thought if she saw it. Would she squeal in delight, or hug me? What I would do to feel her and breathe her in one more time, even to just lay eyes on her one more time... oh I would do anything for another moment with her. Anything. Everything. And nothing, because there isn't anything I can do, it's too late, she's gone, all because of that damn King, and competitor called Blair Archer.
I still remember the sight of her in the middle of the trials. Her wrists bound behind her back by a rope, but what frightened me the most was when my eyes found her fingers. Her gorgeous hands, they'd looked peculiar to me at first, after watching her sew for hours on end it wasn't difficult to notice, it had only taken me a moment to realize, but when I did was absolutely horrified. My sunshine. My Adena. My happiness. Her fingers were bent, swollen and broken behind her back. I could only imagine the torture and torment she had experienced. Her sewing fingers. They had broken her damn sewing fingers. My blood boiled at the thought, reliving the same memory of her in the middle of the trials, knowing it would do me no use, but I couldn't help it. First the world took Hera from me, then it took Adena away, I don't think I'll ever be able to love again. Not the way I loved Adena. Not ever. She was the only thing keeping me going, now she is no more. She is gone.
But not fully I suppose, I look up at the sun and smile sadly, remembering how Adena counted the stars as she lay dying in her friend's arms.
As I look up at the sun, glad that she chose the closest star to me, I silently promise her one thing, a promise I will fulfill whether it's the last thing I do. I, Makoto Khitan, will hunt Blair Archer down.
I will hunt Blair Archer. I will find Blair Archer. I will kill Blair Archer.
Whether it's the last thing I do on this god damn planet
