"Any news on the silver savior?" I ask, masking my concern with bitterness. I don't know why I'm so worried, I already know she's on her way to Dor at this very moment. Pae is a survivor, and I'm doing my best to slow down my guards. I have nothing to worry about, yet here I am, my every instinct telling me to worry, to be concerned, to be weary. I try to shrug my thoughts away by remembering her, the last time I saw her. Her eyes, those ocean blue eyes, the ones I wish I could drown in. Her lips, the ones I kissed, the ones I wish I could taste once more. Her freckles, the ones that I loved to count, all 28 of them. I missed all of her, every damn inch. If only I could hold her right now, but I couldn't. I just have to wait.
Soon. We'll be together once again, not now, but soon. I promised her I would find her, and I intent to keep my promise.
"Well, not much, but apparently one of our guards disappeared, and no one has seen him for a while, he left his station around ten minutes ago, we've sent two more guards to check out if there's an issue" Mr. Calore replied, although I disliked him, he was useful, he had information. Information that I needed.
I let his words sink in. One of my guards had disappeared. That is unusual, but not unheard of. The news only fueled my negative thoughts. Was Paedyn here? Had she taken him out? Did she realize she was only giving her location away? God... so many 'What if's' ran through my head.
"Where was his station?"
"One of the slum alleys, its nearby actually, I'll show you sir"
I nod in approval and follow him as he leads me to the area, this place looked vaguely familiar. But when had I ever been here before?
Oh.
This was where we had met. This was where I met Paedyn. This is where she stole those silvers from me. This is where I had first taken an interest to her. And not too far away from here, she had saved me. She had risked her life... just for me. I owe my life to her, and I don't think I'll ever be able to repay the debt I owe her, but I can try.
"That's far enough Mr. Calore, I think I can take it from here, I recognize this area, our soldier was positioned in this area?"
"Indeed, Sir" He gave me a skeptical look, like he was suspicious of me, but he didn't ask any further questions. He knew exactly what I was capable of. Good. Fear me. Fear me, because if I wish to, I can become the monster of your nightmares. Your biggest fear, the thing that keeps you up at night.
I. Am. A. Monster.
Once he left, I wandered in the depth of Loot Alley. The conditions were horrible, but it wasn't anything I hadn't seen before. I walked through the area swiftly, making sure very little attention was given to me. I didn't want any Ilyan's to realize what had happened. Not until the King decided to announce the inconvenience.
"Mr. Azer" I heard my name, someone whispered it, it was so faint I barely heard it. The voice sounded familiar, but not one I could place. I whipped my head backwards, looking for the source of the sound. Finally, my eyes lay on an elite guard. Not just any elite guard. The one that had disappeared. Was this whole thing a false alarm?
"Ah, I see that you aren't lost, there's a rumor going on that you disappeared, what happened?"
The man stared at me blankly, as if pondering whether or not he should tell me. I found this very annoying, and he knew it. He knew that it pissed me off, yet he continued. He liked having power over his commander, huh? I'll show him what having power over someone really means.
"I advise you to tell me within the next five seconds, or I might just have to let King Azer know about your uselessness during today's assignment. First you go 'missing'. Second you start a rumor among my soldiers about your disappearance. Thirdly, your withholding information from your superior. I could go on with my list if you wish, but the point is you're not in a very good place sir. I mean I don't even know your damn name, that's how much I care about you. So just spit it out already, before I choke the information out of you" My threat is clear in both my words and tone, he should know not to cross me, I've done worse for less, and judging by the expression on his face he knew that. He knows I'm not playing around. Good.
"Uh...well sir...I think it might better you just see for yourself"
I sigh in annoyance and pinch the skin on my forehead, but I manage to restrain myself from making good on my earlier threat. That wouldn't be helpful to either of us.
"This better be good, or you're out of a job"
