"Your five minutes are up; we have to go now; I'll explain soon I promise, but you've got to trust me, we don't have much time."
"What? What happened?" Kai asks, who now walks over to the other side of the room putting as much distance between me and him.
"Now. We have to go now." I can see the desperation in his eyes, pleading me and Kai to listen to him and do as he say, so that's what we do, we leave, following behind Mak, who looks really worried. He leads us swiftly through the alleys of Loot, it takes all my efforts to not lose sight of him, but I manage to keep up. Kai on the other hand seems to have no issue with following Mak's pace, after all he's the enforcer, he was trained all his life for things like this.
I don't realize where or why we're walking at such a quick pace, until we finally reach our desired destination. A wide stretch of sand. The scorches. Memories flashed through my head of the first time I travelled through there, with the sand all over my face and body, it was horrible. What were we doing here all of a sudden, and again?
My question is answered within mere seconds by Mak, "This might sound insane, but I've a plan." He then looks behind us, as if searching the area to make sure there's no one else in the proximity. "The imperials are going to find my home soon, within a day or two, so we need to leave, but if we want to defeat King Azer, our best bet is to gain more allies..."
"...and the best way to get allies is to find enemies of him" Kai finishes for him, his eyes widening in realization, as if trying to say, 'why didn't I think of that first?'
"Yes, exactly, and where better to find his enemies than Tando and Dor? Ordinaries who were banished from here, ordinaries who have reasons to hate this Kingdom and everything it's built on."
I nod understanding his plan now, but this is just the resistance all over again, and that didn't exactly end well last time.
Kai seems to notice my worry, yet his facial features don't give away any sign of concern, nor does his voice when he says, "I don't think you need to worry, we're two wielders and an ordinary, I reckon we'll have a large amount of influence on a lot of them, we'll have hundreds of people on our side within a week."
But I don't even know if we have a week. For all we know Kitt could find us within a day and then it's-
I couldn't finish my thought before Mak shouted, "We've got to go NOW, we can't afford to waste another moment in this damn place, we've to create an army and bring Ilya back to order."
I take one more glance of my old home, before I finally take a step into the sandy desert which could determine the fate of me and my entire life.
