She had stopped listening to me, as soon as I said her name, she stopped responding, her breathing became uneven... she was panicking. It seems she was more affected by Dena's death than I thought. I wasn't the only one still grieving her.
Paedyn had stopped paying attention to me, and while she was distracted, I managed to slip one of my hands out from her knee, and turned us around, so her back was to the ground. She let out a sharp gasp, more out of surprise than pain.
"Look, I know you miss her, but so do I, we were...". I hesitated. Did I really want to tell her how I knew Adena? Did I? Did I trust the silver savior? Hell, no I didn't, but something told me I should tell her. Not because I want to, but because Dena would've wanted her to know. I may not trust her, but Dena certainly did, and I trust her judgement.
"...lovers". I wait for Paedyn's reaction. She shakes her head, her eyes slightly widened. She didn't believe me. Of course she didn't. Who would believe that a random man who you've never met before was the lover of your best friend. I certainly wouldn't.
"Liar... Dena would've told me if she had something going on in her life". I cock my head to the side, innocently and hold her stare.
"You know, you weren't the only one who kept secrets from people" I reply, slightly annoyed at her arrogance. She and Adena were polar opposites. Where Adena was happy, Paedyn was serious. Where Adena was sunshine, Paedyn was a thunderstorm. Where Adena was dead, Paedyn was alive... And I hated it. I hate myself for wishing someone to be dead. But it was true, the only person I wanted... and needed alive was Adena. My sunshine.
"Okay, Makoto, what do you want then? You were in the Fort. You found me in the Fort. Then you started carrying me somewhere... I don't trust you, there's a large price above my head, for all I know you could be taking me back to Kitt". Her voice snapped me out of my thoughts. I scoffed at her words. Does she really think that lowly of me? Then again, she'd only just met me, and Adena never told her about me. It was wise of her to be skeptical.
"What do I want? What I wanted is gone, and I'm never getting her back again. The least I can do for her, is keep her friend safe". I shout louder than I had meant to. Paedyn remained silent, and her eyes seemed to understand. Something about the way I talked about Adena and her death, seemed to make her believe me. I wonder if she has nightmares about her as well. I shake my head slightly, now isn't the time to think about A. I get up and help Paedyn up.
"I'm sorry". The words are barely audible, but I just managed to hear them. I just nod in understanding, and gesture for her to follow me. She listens this time, and we continue to sneak along the alleys of Loot.
