A heartbeat seems to thud beneath my ear.
I stir in the strong arms surrounding me, my senses still sluggish due to only just waking up.
I'm being carried. By whom?
My eyes fly open at the realization. I'm covered by a cover of darkness, obstructing my view of the person carrying me.
Since my eyes are useless at the moment, I focus on the rough arm beneath my knee. Who the hell was in the Fort? Had I been found? Was I being taken back to Kitt? A swarm of nightmares attacked me within a few seconds. I try to force them all backdown and focus on the man's breathing. I try to calm my hammering heartbeat and force my head which was a mess to formulate a plan.
I can't even remember how to breathe. They're taking me back to him. Back to him, to Kitt. They've found me. They've found me. They've found me.
My mind screams the words on repeat, it's almost concerning how much the three words terrify me. Three words causing my heartbeat to quicken. Causing my breathing to become uneven. Causing me to sweat more. I feel paralyzed in the man's arm, powerless in his hold.
How did they find me?
I force all my irrational thoughts down, trying to stop myself from drowning in them, and instead focus on what can help me, what can get me out of this situation, what can help me escape.
Focusing on my surroundings, and the way I'm being held, I hone in on the hand around my shoulders, easily assessing the best angle in which to snap the wrist bone of the man who's delivering me to death itself. Then I focus on his legs, his steps seem uneven, is one of his legs injured? If one of his legs are injured that'll help me to sweep him off his feet. I briefly wonder how long he's been carrying me. But then push the thought out of my mind.
Focus. I just need to take him down, and run, then blend into the city, camouflaging myself with the chaos of people everywhere. No one will find me after that, no one except Kai.
I envision every move I plan to make, before I attempt it. I suck in one final breath to reassure myself. Then I take action.
A scream tears, raw, from his throat, then his wrists snap under my palm as I add extra pressure, so I execute as much pain and torment as possible into my victim. The man stumbles in surprise and pain, causing me to fall out of his arms. I drop to the ground, as my hands scrape the hard gravel causing dots of red to bloom on them. Then I sweep my leg back to catch his ankles, causing him to fall to the ground with a groan. Within a few seconds I'm on top of the man, straddling his chest, and my knees pinning down his arms all while pressing my weight onto his broken bone.
I stare down at the man under my grip, his eyes wide with shock, surprise and pain. He has long dark hair which looks like it could be tied into a ponytail with a small silver streak, the same shade as my hair, which is barely noticeable.
"Who are you? Who sent you? Was it Kitt? If so, I'm rather disappointed you didn't put up much more of a fight, considering you seem to be the only one he sent. " I look around as I speak, analyzing my surroundings to make sure no one else was surrounding us and waiting to attack. Then I look back down at the man, as the words leave my parched mouth.
It seemed unusual that Kitt only sent one man after me, and it wasn't even the enforcer, oh I hope Kai is okay.
"Well, your majesty, to answer the first question, I'm Makoto Khitan, pleasure to meet you, and I wasn't sent by anyone actually. Nope, King Azer didn't send me, and just so you know, if I really wanted to, I reckon I could beat you in a fight, Silver Savior." He announced it like he wasn't being threatened at all, like he was in a position of power. The hint of sarcasm in his voice annoyed me as well, how was this man so calm? And if Kitt didn't send him... then what the hell was he doing in the fort of all places?
As if he knows what I'm thinking he continues talking "You don't know me, and in all honesty, I don't know you either, but I do know... did know Adena. She was-"
The rest of his words blur out, as soon as he said Adena my mind had drifted somewhere else... how did he know her? Why did he know her? Who was he? How come A never told me about him?
