As I thought about Adena, and the final trials, little did I know that I was going to be in for a big surprise when I entered the fort.
As I entered the fort, I could hear the slow breathing of a person, it sounded like they were at rest. When I realized there was another person, I immediately panicked. Who would possibly be here, in the fort?
I approached with caution, my hands curled up into fists ready to connect with a man's face if required and my legs were bent slightly, ready to flee if needed. My mind was sharp, ready to plan a strategic getaway or fight if required.
Once I found the source of the noise, I couldn't help but gape slightly. This had to be a really bad nightmare. She couldn't be here. No. No. No.
The silver savior. Asleep on one of the makeshift beds of the fort. The last I heard about her, she had been captured by King Azer, how had she escaped?
And more importantly what the hell was she doing here? This was the girl who Adena died in lap of. The girl who could've saved her, so much for the title 'Silver savior'. She couldn't save the person who really mattered. Instead, she saved that prick of a prince.
I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive her for not saving Adena. For not being quick enough. For not being strong enough. For not saving her.
But most of all I don't think I can forgive her for being the one to hold her...my Adena as she died, to be the last to talk to her as she died, to be the last to glimpse the beauty of her face as she died, to be the last to feel her as she died.
I bury my hatred into the depths of my heart, I lock it away, Adena wouldn't have wanted me to hurt Paedyn. Adena loved Paedyn. Whenever she talked about Paedyn her eyes looked different, like she was talking about a sister she loved ever so dearly. I won't hurt Paedyn, only because I know Adena would hate me if I did. Instead, I'll make another promise to the sun. My sunshine. I promise to protect her, Adena. I promise to protect Paedyn, only for you. I know it's what you would've wanted.
After silently making my second promise to Adena, I stalk towards Paedyn's resting body, and pick it up in my arms after wrapping it in a cloth so no one notices her, and decide to carry her back to my area, where she'll be less likely to be found.
I just hope I haven't made a promise I can't keep; I've made too many of those by now.
