Seraphina's POV
Tulala akong nakatitig sa kawalan. No one knows the death of my friend, hindi ito ipinaalam ni Headmaster sa ibang estudyante.
The reality of her death is sinking in, and it was like a heavy weight pressing down on my chest... I couldn't even say goodbye to her one last time.
They went about their day, laughing and chatting—oblivious to the tragedy that had struck, while my world had come crashing down.
"Sera, are you okay?" Wendy asked, who was sitting beside me, her brow furrowed with concern as she closed the book she was reading.
I forced a smile. "I'm fine," I lied, my voice hollow.
"You're not." Her eyes softened. "Para kang umiyak ng magdamag. May problema ka ba?"
I swallowed hard, trying to keep the tears at bay. "Wala ito. Hindi lang ako nakatulog nang maayos."
They exchanged worried glances but didn't press further. Both Wendy and Arianna's presence is comforting, but it is also a painful reminder of what I had lost.
I was staring blankly at the ground when I heard Wendy's voice.
"Sera, may itatanong ako," she said gently, so I forced myself to look at her.
"The ball tonight," Wendy started, her voice soft.
I shook my head. "I can't... Ayaw ko." They exchanged glances.
Not after what happened.
"Sera, you need to go," Arianna said, her voice was firm but kind. "The Queen strictly said na um-attend lahat ng estudyante."
Umiling ako. "I don't want to go," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Sera, please. It is considered disobeying the Queen if you didn’t attend," si Arianna naman ang sumagot.
I didn't answer her.
"You deserve a break, Sera, even if it's just one night," saad naman ni Wendy.
Her voice was filled with concern.
Umiwas ako ng tingin at hindi sumagot. How I wish I could tell them everything that is weighing me down.
"Ayaw ka naming pilitin, Sera, pero ayaw naming maparusahan ka," Arianna said, her eyes full of compassion.
"We don't want you to isolate yourself. Just this once, please pagbigyan mo kami," Wendy said. "Gusto ka naming makasama mamaya," dagdag pa niya.
I looked between them. "Okay," I said finally, my voice trembling. "I'll go."
Nakita ko ang matatamis nilang ngiti. They both hugged me, and for the first time in days, I felt a glimmer of hope and comfort.
