The night was cool, a gentle breeze rustling the leaves of the surrounding trees as the group of friends gathered around the bonfire. The crackling of the firewood and occasional bursts of laughter pierced the quiet night, creating a comforting pattern of warmth and camaraderie. You sat with your legs crossed, leaning against the rough bark of a tree, nursing the final bit of your beer. Your thoughts drifted to the past week, the weight of your recent breakup feeling heavier with each passing day.
Shoto walked over, a soft smile playing on his lips as he offered you a fresh beer. "You don't look like you're having fun," he said, his voice a warm presence in the cool air.
You took the can from him, popping the tab and taking a sip. "It's okay. Just a lot on my mind." You didn't need to explain the details; everyone knew about your ex.
He nodded, his eyes searching yours for a moment before looking away. "Want to talk about it?"
You felt a knot in your stomach loosen. It was strange how someone who had been a mere acquaintance had become such a source of comfort so quickly. You took a deep breath, feeling the warmth of the fire lick at your skin. "I just don't know what I'm going to do without him."
Shoto sat down beside you, his arm brushing against yours. "You're stronger than you think," he assured you, his voice filled with a quiet confidence that was as soothing as the fire's glow. "You'll find someone who treats you right."
The conversation flowed easily, a mix of shared stories and light-hearted banter that helped to distract you from your pain. As the night grew later and the flames grew lower, the group began to disperse, leaving just you and Shoto staring into the embers.
"Thanks for being here," you murmured, feeling a buzz from the alcohol that made you braver than usual.
Shoto leaned in closer, his eyes meeting yours. "Anytime." His voice was low, the warmth from his body seeping through your clothes. "Let's get out of here."
You nodded, suddenly feeling a thrill of excitement mixed with the haze of alcohol. You stood up, the world tilting slightly, and he was there, steadying you with a firm grip on your elbow. "I've got you," he said, and the concern in his eyes was genuine.
Together, you stumbled away from the dwindling bonfire, leaving the sounds of laughter and music behind. The night was quiet now, the only noise the crunch of gravel underfoot as you made your way to Shoto's car. The cool metal of the door handle was a shock against your skin as he opened it for you, his hand lingering on your waist as you slid into the passenger seat.
The drive was a blur of streetlights and shadows, the gentle hum of the engine lulling you into a sense of ease. You didn't know where he was taking you, but you didn't care. Being with him was enough to keep the ghosts of your past at bay, if only for a little while.
When you arrived, it was to a small, cozy apartment. The lights were off, but the moon cast a soft glow through the windows, illuminating the sparse furniture and the single bed in the corner. He led you inside, his hand never leaving the small of your back, guiding you with a gentle but firm touch.
The door clicked shut behind you, and the silence was palpable. You felt his gaze on you as you took in the unfamiliar surroundings, the heat of his stare making your heart race. "You know," he began, his voice a low murmur in the quiet space, "I can fuck you better than he ever did."
The words hung in the air, charged with a tension that was both thrilling and terrifying. You turned to face him, your eyes locking onto his. His expression was serious, his gaze intense. You searched his eyes for any sign of doubt or insincerity, but all you found was raw, unfiltered desire.
